Beauty Room - How Can We Save?
Other
So one all about beauty.
How can we save in Beauticians? Haircuts? Make up? ETC.......
Any Ideas?
local colleges usually offer discounted hair and nails packages. Trainees are always supervised and it's rare they do anything terrifying. It also helps trainees in their courses. My local tech college charges about 5 quid for a hair cut and about 8 for gorgeous acrylic nails.
Oh wow, that is a really good price. Last time I went to hairdresser, I payed £25 and I looked worth than before..
AgnesFaludi The staff are lovely in my local college and the environment is just like a very plush spa. They do beauty treatments too at massive discount. Things like:- face massage, detox, fake tan- all sorts really. I like it there. Nice friendly people who appreciate your time. It's great fun as well listening to all the different people giving you beauty tips.
also I buy most of my 12 month lasting makeup in the January sales and I keep my lipsticks in the fridge! Lol I know that's weird but it stops them going gooey and keeps the shape for longer.
I save a fortune on beauty products by being fat and scruffy all the time. Its my look and I wear it well!
Lol I love this idea! I'm a lot like Pigpen from Peanuts comics. I leave looking like I've made effort - I come home looking like tarantula dressed me.

I have a hairdresser that visits me at home that cuts for my partner and I. She is very reasonable and I save a fortune and my time visiting hairdressers. Over the last 20 years I have had 4 hairdressers. I even had a private hairdresser when I lived in the Caribbean. I just find it more convenient too.
https://www.treatwell.co.uk/ is always worth taking a look you can get some good discounts at very good hair and beauty salons
Try your local college, they often do haircuts and beauty treatments at a reduced price as the people are trainees. Mobile hairdressers are normally cheaper and more convenient. Look in the clearance sections of boots and superdrug for make up or buy it in the January sales. Plus if you keep things like foundation and lipstick in the fridge, they last longer. Plus lots of beauty counters do samples of foundation, you just get coloured matched and then take it with you. Clinique and Estee Lauder are really good at doing this. Look on the latest free stuff facebook page or website, they normally say when the counters are doing this.
I used to get freebie cuts when I was a student as I used to offer my barnet up as a model. I did have one unhappy experience, but on the whole it was pretty good.
clareemckenzie What happened when you had unhappy experience? Had a VS special cut?
AgnesFaludi Sorry for the late reply. Let's just say my hair was meant to copy the style of Linda Evangalista. I went from long shoulder length hair to just under my ears. I cried like a banshee. It was not a good period in my life!
Just wanted to say I don't keep mousse based or most foundation in the fridge as unlike lippie, it doesn't blend easily after getting cold. ;)
You aren't supposed to leave them in the fridge for long periods of time, like you do with lipstick. You put them in for a little while and then take them out and wait till they get back to room temperature before you use them. It stops them from oxidising.
MrsCraig the air drops out of the mousse ones after a couple of hours.
It's a good idea to keep lippie in the fridge the only ones I've found go weird after that is bodyshop lippies. They seem to go tacky and apply like spreading butter over sandpaper.
Anyone have any good tips for buying perfume?
MellonE Ahhh see my foundation isn't a mousse one, which is maybe why it works better for me! Not everyone likes it though and it isn't something that I do often anyway!
Never had a bodyshop lippie but I will remember that!
In terms of perfume, always look in the sales after Christmas time or when the websites have a % off deal. I save up my boots points and buy perfume with them.
MellonE most of the perfumes are artificial under £150, so does the brand does not matter. Some of the perfumes not go on sale...Chanel, Dior but sometimes department stores have 20% sales. Also good to check TK MAXX sometimes. They say the perfumes expire in 1-2 years, but if you keep then in darkness in colder place they last longer.
AgnesFaludi i like the storage advice as i usually keep perfumes on the top of dresser in light places. I'm going to keep them in the dark in future in the drawer!
I love my Gautier perfume I know it's stupidly expensive but I love the smell so much and it has so many happy memories that it stimulates. What's your favourite scent?
I love w7 cosmetics too which TJ Hughes online has buckets of. I have far too much make up- probably enough to paint the ceiling in my house but their primer and foundation is fab- diddly- ab!
AgnesFaludi I look in TK MAXX for perfume, you get some brilliant deals. I didn't realise they lasted longer if you kept them in the dark. I know they aren't meant to be in the sun, so I should probably move mine as they are right opposite the window!
AgnesFaludi That is a good idea! There is a drawer right underneath where I keep them just now! I do however have them in their boxes, so don't know if that helps or not.
MrsCraig I do not have the boxes, but should help, because the main thing not to get to much air into the fragrance bottle.
AgnesFaludi Ahhh I didn't know that either! I will be much more careful with my perfume from now on.
MrsCraig I think one of the best sale in January was the Boots sale in stores, some of the central London stores, which not busy reducing these items and reducing again and again and again.
AgnesFaludi Our local boots store is a small one, so there are always amazing deals in store! They had a brilliant January sale this year!
Dont buy products at full price and dont fall for branded products, shop around and you will find products similar if not the same but cheaper
I love some brands and very often their products not go on sale.
But sometimes there is a voucher and it makes it worth it to buy it.
AgnesFaludi Most brands if not all go on sale at some point and if you like perfume products then FM perfume is the same as brands and much much cheaper
You can make a lot of your own beauty products, it can be fun and possibly cheaper and then you could also give your homemade products as gifts!
I used to do that. It is better if u do your own and add the vitamins your skin needs, but those products u make have shorter shelve life.
Used to make cream with aloe vera and cocoa butter and shea butter with added vitamin E and it smelled really good without any added scent. The problem was it is only good for 2 weeks and have to keep it in the fridge.
AgnesFaludi I read to make a simple body scrub just mix salt with coconut oil but the oil doesn’t become liquid enough. Do you know an easy recipe please?
