Boarding Schools Would You Have Attended One if You Could?

Other

Just out of interest would you go to a boarding school if you could have as a child.bwoukd you send your kids to one? Just watched something on boarding schools that are just for the rich.

As a teen I wanted to go cos of malory towers. Probably would have hated it. No way would I send my child to one.

I studied at a boarding school. Personally I wouldn't send my children to one, not saying that I hated it was a great experience. Just don't think I'd want my children to go.

I know as a teen it was the idea of midnight feasts that I liked.

Hated school start to finish- bullying teachers as well as classes made my life a misery. Would love to have been home schooled but didn’t have resources unfortunately.

I did and I hated it, felt abandoned, homesick and lonely, I was only 7/8 years old.

Lynibis see that's how I view it as an adult kids feeling like you. Reading about it as a kid I saw adventure but not the reality of it. As adult and one who's studied child development and things attachment I know the damage it would do.

Jerseydrew it was late 50s early 60a and as I was brought up by just my father without a proper home (we lived in digs wherever he worked) social services forced him into sending me away. He always said he only married my stepmum so I could come home but it worked out pretty well.

As a grown up lol.I love serious study and solitude now but despised it as a child.I just wanted to ride my bike and hang out at the swimming baths all day long then.

I was "removed" from an awful grammar school and sent to boarding school aged 13 - and I have to say I loved it. It certainly was good for me as it got me back on track education wise. basically I managed 5 years worth of secondary education in three years at the school. Small classes (max 8) was just what I needed. It had its bad times but I don't remember them as much as the good times. Being homesick was never a problem for me personally as I couldn't wait to leave home. Other pupils had a harder time though

didbygraham glad you had a positive experience and you were old enough to understand that you weren't abandoned and it sounds like the right thing for you

I absolutely hated school. So I don’t think going to boarding school would have been any better as all I was wanted to do was get home.

As a kid I was the weird one who dreamed of a boarding school researched and everything never actually went and honestly if I ever have kids I wouldn't sent them that and it costs way too much

I definitely wanted to go to one as a youngster... Basically from reading books in which the kids made amazing friendships.... As I was extremely shy n went through school with just the one best friend... Now, I know it would have been hell on wheels for a child as shy as I was.....xx

I don’t think I could handle sending my kids away to school although there was a boarding department in the school they attended. There was kids there from China, Germany and England. There could have been kids from other countries but that was the countries my kids were friends with kids from there. I’d have loved to attend boarding school if they’d have been like the Enid Blyton books I read - Mallory Towers. They always seemed to have such great time
