Should We Bring Back Face Masks Here ?
Ask a Question
Spain brings back face masks as Covid and flu cases spike across the country www.mirror.co.uk/travel/europe/spain-brings-back-face-masks-31848514
As cases rise here and hospitals under pressure , should we take a leaf out of Spain’s book and bring back face masks ??
PhilipMarc this video is completely pointless. When wearing a mask the point is to prevent the spread of fluid that is expelled from the nose and mouth. It's nothing to do with gas
PhilipMarc difference between liquid, solid and gas. That video is always used by people who are against masks and it diminishes their argument because it is only showing that the mask wouldn't be effective in stopping you from breathing. Thank god.
Run a cloth under a tap and see how much liquid it can hold, that shows that it will definitely reduce the spread.
If it helps with the control of spreading viruses then yes, it’s to protect everyone. If someone coughs wearing a mask it does help. I wish they would bring in rules of no budgie smugglers for 50+
I would advocate, it is up to the individuals, however, I would support the use in places, such as Doctors Surgery and Hospitals. They are after all a breeding zone for these types of diseases.
It should be a choice but if the numbers start going up then I feel it should be compulsory. I have noticed the lack of hygiene when people use public toilets some guys are reluctant to wash their hands after a 1 and a 2! Why is this so difficult for them to do? Are they afraid of water? Where is their self respect?
And you’re supposed to be a nurse going by your username!?? What a bloody stupid question!!
Medical masks are scientifically proven/designed to filter over 90% of airborne particles less than 0.3microns.
Hepa filter that filters about 99% particles above 0.3microns - is it useless?
Cloth masks obviously don't filter such small germs but it stops your possible infected miniscule spit reaching/contaminating everywhere, where other people will touch - it REDUCES spread not stop it.
Anything that goes around an ill-fitted mask is going to be filtered at 0%.
If it was only effective for snot and spit, why not wear an alternate reusable, environmentally friendly cloth mask for surgery and cutting people up.
Personal choice, absolutely.
Everyone has to assess the risks to their health AND whether wearing a mask at a certain specification in the time/circumstance will make a difference.
To be honest I'm not sure of their effectiveness. I would like to see some data regarding that before bringing them back. I think Covid is now something we have to live with

I like and thank you for your balanced view of honesty & not being sure, rather than straight up gaslighting that they don't work.
If the medical masks weren't effective, I doubt doctors and nurses would be wearing them in surgery - they could just wear other cloth masks etc if they didn't want to spit/breath on you, or not at all.
No it's personal choice. I still wear one at work because I'm on tills and have contact with many customers.
Dont expect anyone to be made to wear a mask these days or anytime in the future. They are though coming back on many places in hospitals where there are a lot of patients being treated. If people are just sensible then it should be enough.
This popped up recently even if only in Florida, U.S.
We can't ignore the fact that cancer is showing up a lot more these days and a lot of people are either dying of heart attacks or getting mysteriously sick.
My parents got sick after getting the shots and before that, they were perfectly fine. Others were like them too and due to it, they now refuse to get any newer shots.
Well, well, well, they were annoyed I didn't get vaxxed, but it paid off.
PhilipMarc oh come on I'm not vaccinated myself but there is millions of people who have had it and had no issues it's the luck of the draw nothing is 100% safe
Leannexxx Especially a vaccine that was rushed to the market and the guinea pigs were humans.
PhilipMarc the vaccine was based on vaccines that were already being worked on for similar illnesses such as ebola.
Had all the shots plus more.Been ok no reactions. It depends on individuals.Would support wearing of masks yes.Wearing them is making a comeback in many other countries.Except uk where folk dont want to be odd one out, or think they look stupid. How good do they think they'd look on a ventilator then?
caztoo the mask don't do anything tho you can still catch covid same with the vaccines it's a personal choice if someone wants to wear them now and as covid is here to stay I can't see them bringing that law again I'd be very surprised if they did as I've always believed the government didn't give a s*** when covid did happen it was all about money to them life's didn't matter and I still think the same now
Leannexxx Yes, but you said they don't do anything, but they do help.

I think it now boils down to a personal choice. I did notice quite a few people wearing them yesterday when I was in town.
No no no!!! Absolutely useless. These germs are microscopic so can get through masks - if they couldn't we wouldn't be able to breath through them!!! Why have we never had all this panic about deaths fron flu and pneumonia every winter? The vulnerable should feel free to isolate but the majority should be able to continue as normal!
SandyBrown have to disagree there covid to me wasn't like the flu at all I've had flu a few times and could cope now when I got covid for the first time in December I couldn't move was so ill for 12 days and it's affected my hearing
Leannexxx i was totally the opposite- the flu kept me in bed for two weeks. I had covid for over 8 weeks and all I had was a few headaches. It affects everyone differently but I know I was incredibly lucky.
suevernon1968 my dad was the same had a headache I tested positive on the 12th Dec first time I had it and oh my god

SandyBrown breathing and expelling fluid at high speed due to a sneeze is a completely different thing. You're mixing up gas and liquid
I am going to say yes, but only because stupid people have completely forgotten about social distance. If they didn't invade other people's personal space, it wouldn't be necessary; unfortunately, it is. A bit of solidarity with people who are immuno compromised or have chronic respiratory diseases! We are in this world for each other, not each to themselves and screw everyone else.
Leannexxx oh, I would love to. But I wouldn't want my children to learn from me and start saying that to people! This is just my opinion, influenced by the fact my 90 year old Dad got covid and we thought we would lose him. And the fact my little girl has asthma. In an ideal world, people would just respect other's personal space. Unfortunately, a lot of people need to be told before they do the right thing, as they are too busy talking about "my rights". Like I said, I little bit of empathy and consideration.
I have to wear a mask when i go for cancer treatment but so do all the staff. I also have to show a negative lateral flow test- I wouldn’t have it any other way.
The only reason to bring back face masks is to keep my nose warm as the weather is freezing at the moment but I still enjoy going on my daily walks.
Me and my partner have worn a mask since covid began, she has Asthma.
We had health anxiety before covid, so would avoid being in close contact with anyone.
I do not know if masks work or not, but we have not had covid and touch wood we won’t! I know it has always been said that masks are better for the person with illness, to prevent their droplets from spreading to others.
It makes us feel more comfortable to wear a mask, so we will continue to do so.
Obviously it is everyone’s own decision. I do think people should be more aware of personal space, keeping some distance in general.
I have always found more comfortable wearing the face masks but have a problem with my glasses fogging up. I have tried the anti-fog wipes but TBH they are rubbish!
Absolutely not I totally disagree. When people do not wear them they are more aware of their environment but put a mask on they think they are untouchable !!
What's that, they're working on a vaccine for a virus in the future? They must think people are that stupid.
Just because people obeyed in 2020 it doesn't mean they'll do it again.
