Cheap/FREE Thermal/electric Blanket Cheat

Money Saving

If you are starting to feel the cold, especially when going to bed.

You can achieve a 'self heating' method by placing a thermal rescue blanket, which cost on average £2, may even be FREE from Salvation Army, at this time of the year, between your mattress and mattress topper.

If you don't have a mattress topper, use an old quilt, thats lost some of its tog rating or a sleeping bag(a single, which you can open out to be a double), put the rescue blanket under the sleeping bag, which goes on top of your mattress, works just the same.

I have been using this 'thermal blanket cheat' for over 10 years.

If you are handy with a sewing machine, you can even attach it to your quilt, put it back in the cover and pull it over you.

That's one for the top and one for the bottom, will keep you nice and toastie on the cold nights.

Do the same with a single quilt and use it for 'comfy cuddles' on the sofa on a cold night.

You may even need a cold beer to cool you down.

OMG! I have never been so amused at this suggestion. What's wrong with buying a thick blanket for your bed, putting it on top of your bottom sheet and another thick blanket on top of your duvet? also putting on extra layers of clothing??????

jam45 As the original deal indicates... the using of a "heat reflecting material" as a heat resistant barrier, STOPS the heat escaping either below or above you, therefore keeps you much warmer, just using your body heat.

I am also very confident that "buying" the EXTRA thick blankets for your bed, to put one on top of your bottom sheet and another thick blanket on top of your duvet, would be way more EXPENSIVE than the original £2.50 budget, and the idea is to stay warm while REDUCING your expenses on heating bills, not having to spend vast amounts of MORE money.

Great idea. I use single duvets as a mattress toppers on our double beds.

I just wear fleecy pjs and add a hoodie and blanket if necessary. Much less faff involved.

It’s a good idea but i would just say that if anyone intends to get one from the Salvation Army please make sure you really can’t afford to buy one yourself as those items are intended for those less fortunate
