Is Setting Clocks Back to Winter Time Necessary?

Ask a Question

Clocks back to winter time. Do we still need to do this any more? I know the debate comes every year but I’d rather just stay with summer time. Having said that I live in South East England where we probably get the most sun. I’ve seen Scottish people argue it’s darker up there so need more early daylight. What does everyone think?

Jackscot Spain is in the wrong time zone, yet they don't mind it.

Point is, this is just silly, just get rid of DST altogether.

Leannexxx Not all of them and it’s more about length of daylight at each end of the day.

Emerge11 I always wondered if night workers were expected to work an extra hour. Sorry to hear that you are! That is really unfair.

Imnotcheap No, not where I work. I am not sure If It differs from company to company as when I worked for another company working nights my nights were different. I did not work weekends then, now I do.

The clock went back an hour, but I literally noticed nothing changing. Just... Get rid of DST.

Sorry, DST.

I live in Scotland, in the North and it does get darker here compared to other places. It can be dark by 4pm in the winter. It doesn't bother me that the clocks go back and forward.

It doesn't bother me to be honest, it's always been this way, makes no difference to me

martinlufc5637 It's just unnecessary at this point. Just make GMT (for those countries involved) permanent.

Personally I think we should stick with GMT. The change is bad for routine which really matters to some people

I remember an experiment of not changing the clocks when I was a child (early '60s). We were starting school in pitch darkness, it was horrid.

LadyA Ah maybe that’s why we still do it then.

It's a bit of a pain really, we have lots of clocks and almost all of them need changing by hand, especially those that chime! I'd much rather that they do away with the time change. That being said, I do understand that it is darker earlier in Scotland but surely England could 'not change' and Scotland could still do it? It works in other countries where they have different time zones.

This debate will go on 'ad infinitum'.

As the UK government has to change the regulation only they have the power to solve the dispute.

However, as the UK government is elected by the UK populous to comply with the 'will of the people' 😂🤣, maybe the UK government should send out/issue a nationwide referendum regarding this issue and then issue a public statement of the results and then, in accordance with the 'will of the people' implement any changes that the referendum results render necessary.

Unfortunately, I do NOT see this happening anytime soon, especially in my lifetime, as the UK government really do NOT care about the 'will of the people'(so they are really a total waste of time and certainly NOT cost effective).

Maybe there is an historian 👨‍🎓👩‍🎓 out there that can shed light on the last 'public referendum' prior to 'brexit', where the 'will of the people' was ACTUALLY adhered to by the UK government.

For the time being, twice a year, the subject will be churned around in pubs across the UK, and also on numerous websites, but will remain the same because the UK populous has lost ALL control over ensuring that the UK government implements.......

"THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE AND ACTS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF EVERY UK CITIZEN" 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
