Copied Deals from Other Deal Websites.
Other
I've just started using this deal website and have noticed that some of the deals that I have posted on other websites have been copied here. I don't have a problem with them being shared. However, personal text that I have written about myself has also been copied and pasted too. So they are claiming to be me. Does this happen a lot here?
This is the only deals website i use so cant really answer your question but I do think its a bit rude and lazy to copy and paste your deals and not even take the time to remove your personal text !
Hi markpj777 Welcome to LD!
We always encourage members to credit the original finder of their deal if they discovered it elsewhere.
It does sound a bit off if someone is copying your wording/personal details from other places. If you're concerned please drop us a message via our contact form and we can look into it for you.
Any questions about LD please just shout - happy to help!
Thanks for replying. I do like the concept of your site. You reward people for their work. This is why I'm switching to your site and away from the big site who I won't mention. However, I think the downside to rewarding people is they will do anything to find a deal and in this case copying word for word just to get points to earn themselves a voucher.
That's a common issue that exists here, folks copy deals rather than find deals. Not saying all, but some.
I too have had things of my creation copied and pasted to a site I have no connection with, I was notified on this site, possibly by the same person who did it as a form of harrasment. I have written to the site it was copied to (HKUD) and asked for a "take down" (it is infringing my copyright and also this sites copyright as it contained LDs artwork). Their legal department contacted me yesterday - taking the matter seriously.
I should explain for anyone not conversant with copyright law that only the person (or someone instructed by them) whose copyright has been infringed may issue a "take down" notice. It can be done informally as I did - but if they fail to take down the offending material, and also do not take reasonable steps to avoid recurrence, then they can be sued (with costs against them).
