David McCallum, Heart Throb Spy of the Man from U.N.C.L.E., Dies
In the News
I used to love the man from uncle tv series , especially the two lead characters Robert Vaughn and David McCallum , AKA Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin
Now David McCallum passed away yesterday aged 90
I would say this programme was the catalyst for many similar spy series and films like mission impossible and men in black
I didnt watch him in N.C.I.S but i did in the invisible man , another great
A sad loss
I loved watching him as Illya Kuryakin in The Man From U.N.C.L.E he was my hero when I was a kid. Sad to hear he passed away, may he RIP.
I didn’t know him until I became a fan of NCIS. Absolutely loved his character in it. Didn’t realise he was 90. RIP
I think Man from Uncle was heavily inspired by the James Bond movies. It had a great intro sequence like Bond movies and a good soundtrack like Bond movies too. It seemed like every other episode was called 'something' affair. It was a good series of its time but must admit when I went back to watch a few episodes a few years back I found it had dated quite badly in my opinion. I certainly enjoyed it as a kid though. I also remember him in that weird series Sapphire and Steel which was made in the UK. Most of his work was in the US it seems. I remember him in the original Twilight Zone or Outer Limits episodes. I can't remember which one it was but there was a least one story where he was the main star in it. Looking at his career on imdb most of his acting seems to be science fiction, fantasy or animation. The two highest rated series seems to be Colditz and Sapphire and Steel.
I can't stand detective/police series typically although did use to enjoy the Bill a bit. So never saw him in NCIS. I reckon Man from Uncle and NCIS are his two stand out roles.
