Declining Quality

Other

I was at my mum’s yesterday and she had just bought some thermal curtain linings. She had another from years ago and the difference in quality of material was quite noticeable. This cost of living means manufacturing is cutting corners to make things cheaper and spread out. There’s no way she could get the same today. So probably not quite as efficient either but that’s what we get.

Allowing for inflation many goods are a lot cheaper nowadays than in the past but much of this stuff is coming from China where quality is just about good enough a lot of the time rather than great quality in my opinion. You could probably find the same quality as purchased in the past but whether you would be prepared to pay for that item is another matter when you see the price.

BonzoBanana Yes exactly, couldn’t afford it now even if we could find it.

It’s a change in the consumer’s mindset, everything these days is built to last less because we want new things more frequently

I have seen companions are cutting their costs as they are struggling just as the customer is. On a different note, I have noticed how the hospitality section is really cutting corners.

Back In the day Silentnight used to be a brand you could only afford If you had a second mortgage. Their quality was the best of the best. Today they are still going strong but their quality Is rubbish. I am talking Pillows here which after a few days they are as flat as a pancake. I have tried them all from Silentnight, even the so called bounceback. Rubbish. In the end I bought some Hotel Pillows and they are super comfy and still plump after three months. Not Silentnight. This Is my opinion and experience.
