trying to cut the costs of grocery shopping
I just keep an eye out for all the prices for the stock items we always need. I always use http://MySupermarket.com for the main shop so can check prices then. If an item comes up with a decent price and we are running low on stock then I will often make a special trip if the deal is good enough - Example we love Kenco Milicano and always buy it on half price - never had to pay the full price on it ever. Still recall the puzzled look on the till girls face when I went to Iceland last year and just purchased 5 tins of Milicano at £2 each instead of £4.29 at Tesco/Asda. Just ordered 4 large tins this week from Tesco. If we had more storage space I would buy even more in bulk like this...
Usually I stock up on things that are typically more expensive than I'm willing to pay when they're on offer as well like didbygraham does. Using MySupermarket is a great way to make sure you're getting things at the cheapest possible rate. Typically I go to Tesco or Sainsbury's as they're the closest to me, but if I'm going past another supermarket for whatever reason I tend to check MySupermarket for any bargains on things I buy anyway while I'm out that way. I was able to get a lot of tubes of toothpaste from Poundland when they had a 25p sale after Christmas for example which helped to keep my grocery budget down for a while.
I also have a list of the cheapest items in each supermarket and stock up on those while I'm there. For example, basic mustard in Morrisons is just 23p. In Tesco and Sainsbury's it's around 55p. If there's something you buy a lot of it's worth checking the other supermarkets, even if it's a cheaper item like that.
I've also use Clicksnap which is a cashback app that's part of Quidco. Basically, if you buy the products on the list and upload your receipt they give you the money back. Sometimes they even pay you more than you had to pay for the product, so they're basically paying you to buy the product. I see this like extra money I can re-use on groceries to stretch my money further.
are very organised thats what i need to be more organised lol thankyou ill have a look at click snap
Bargain28 I never used to be organised at all but once you get the hang of it more it saves you time and money so it's worth it. I think you'll like ClickSnap. They have things completely free giving 100% cashback, so you can't get any better than that! Good luck with your budgeting!
I always stock up, have a stock pile, buy pasta, flour, tinned tomatoes....kitchen roll on offer...etc....and most of these things have long expiry.
I try to get double deals....like Waitrose pick your offers, so get 20% off from the already discounted products. Like this things will be cheaper than in other retailers.
Most of the retailers are naughty, they do different
Use Zeek to get gift cards on offer and save money there too.
The biggest saving on food to re-use yesterday food and make something else from it....like bolognese, next day pizza or roast meats can be used in sandwiches and fajita wraps.
I was able to get kitchen roll for just 25p for 3 rolls in Poundland's Christmas sale. Still using it now, even though some of my friends have decided I like Christmas too much given the Christmas pattern on my kitchen roll in March. We have to make the most of stocking up when things are cheap though
thankyou AgnesFaludi i have just started re using i think maybe that was half my problem the stockpile is a excellent tip and ill bear that in mind next time i go shopping and im with zeek just havent used for a while tbh i forgot about it thankyou very much for feedback
That's a great idea. You'll never know when a total lockdown will happen and you've got to stay in for days (like it happened in Brazil).
Rockman Yeah...would have food for a while....I also stock up on jams...when they go on sale....and make some when fruit is cheap....
Bargain28 Set a budget.....like pasta 500g max £1.00....always get things on sale, promotion...or with coupons...
Sometimes an offer looks good.....like value chocolate 100g for £1.00, but maybe there is a quality chocolate 150g for £1.50....than they cost the same....I always hunt branded items on sale and go for quality products...
Couponing can make some product free....some of them can be printed and some of them you can find in Tesco magazine.....sometimes Metro....

I look for offers and bulk buy staples such as tomatoes, tuna etc... I also batch cook and pop meals in the freezer for a later date. I am not usually that great at spotting the yellow sticker offers due to the time that I am shopping which is usually 7am on a Thursday or Friday. I am sure you could find some advice on the site about the best times to get bargains..
I usually find that around 7-8pm is the best time for yellow sticker bargains in larger stores, 6-7pm is usually best for smaller stores like Tesco Metro.
I always write up a menu for the week so i know what i am buying, also stock up on items that are on sale or reduced as hate paying full price for washing powder dishwasher tablets etc. Always looks out for deals but only buy if you need the items otherwise it isnt a deal lol
Sometimes things cheaper on Amazon. I bought 90 dishwasher tablets for £12.00 sometimes go to £11.00
Pampers nappies are so cheap....they beating the price of Aldi nappies. Sometimes it is worth to have a look around, buy a bigger package and store, instead of buying small packs.
Never thought about looking on amazon for dishwasher tablets and things like that......thanks for the suggestion
sarahtwinmom I often check Amazon but often the main supermarkets beat them, or at the very least match them. The last lot I brought were cheaper on Amazon but the day after they arrived Asda had them at the same price. You often see them on Mighty Deals and other sites, but watch out of hefty postage rates which often make them more expensive than Amazon. Talking of Asda they do seem to be the best of the supermarkets when it comes to dishwasher tables - certainly a lot better than Tesco ever is!
