Do You Get Enough Time off Work?
Ask a Question
Do you get enough holiday?
Do you feel your workplace offers enough holiday? Would you like to have more or do you think what they offer is quite generous already?
I work on the nhs bank so i take whatever time off i want depending on my finances. Would hate to be back on a contract where there are rules to when and how I can take my holiday.
In my previous jobs i got 6 weeks holiday but wasn’t allowed to take more than 2 weeks off in a row and they only paid me my contract hours for holiday despite me doing twice the amount of hours every week
I find it's not so much lack of holiday time but the kids have so much time off school it's a nightmare trying to keep them busy and looked after.
Midnightflower they need it and the staff need it. By the end of a half term we are all shattered. The break gives kids a chance to recharge
Jerseydrew I totally agree it's needed particularly for staff who works in schools, but it's a nightmare with young kids finding babysitters for 6 weeks. It's not helped by our working hours either as my partner can be on the rota from 9am anywhere to midnight and I'm 6am till midnight, seven days a week.
What with pension age raised to 66/7 and ever on the up coupled with wages all but consumed by increased rents/mortgages and utility rises most of us struggle to keep heads above water with the little salary remaining. Holidays as/when/if are just about enough to catch up with life and rest our weary limbs for the odd week if at all. It ain't easy being working class lol.
I get six weeks plus bank holidays but with how demanding work is, I feel like it's not enough. I asked for more, what can I say.
SamGoodship I haven't heard back yet..but I will chase them. I work in a school so I do lots of out of hours work and I think the time off is deserved. I still have to do payroll when I'm on holiday!!
tamarasallen What do you do and how much time do you want off? 6 weeks seems generous as it is
TheChimp I have several roles and work long hours, generally 7 - 7. With me having so many roles, I am saving the school quite a bit of money but it's exhausting. I crash when there's a break and it just never feels enough.
tamarasallen Ah, I see. Working a 12 hour shift, 5 days a week is a lot different to the 'normal' 9-5. I think that I would expect a little more than 6 weeks holiday
If j worked in an easy school I'd say I have enough. But the school I'm no. I'm in a school where violence is the norm same as being sworn at, spat, bitten.
Yes I would say I get enough time off work. I work in a secondary school and we need the amount of time we get off, we are all exhausted by the end of term, kids included.
I live near my parents so holiday cover was never an issue. I could have earned more, had a better quality of life but I chose family over that. I don't regret it at all. My children consider my parents in everything they do.
I would like some more plz lol at least 5 more extra days lol mostly for mental health rest and resting the body.
The past couple of years, my workplace has offered the chance of buying 5 extra days AL. I jumped at the chance this year as its a great wee incentive
Cant complain with the 32 I get a year but I am seriously pondering joining the NHS bank next year when I can get my nhs pension. The idea of choosing just enough to make up the difference does appeal - although I may well leave it another year or so
