How Do You Feel about Homemade Gifts?

Ask a Question

Are you a fan of DIY gifts, or do you prefer the convenience of store-bought presents?

I like to do a mix as I'm a crafter, I make some things like decorations they can hand on the Christmas tree and buy something to go with it that I know the person will like.

I love handmade gifts as I appreciate the thought and time that has gone into them. I make little decorations to go on my female family/friends gifts and always get nice comments, one friend told me last week that she has always saved them and puts them on her Christmas tree so no pressure there now haha. Yes they take me a while to make but I enjoy doing them and usually pick up bits and bobs in the sales after Christmas so just cost me pennies to make. ⛄

Handmade gifts are the best. I'd also rather have something thoughtful and inexpensive than a showy expensive item. I always bake a cake when I'm a guest in someone's home, having asked the host's preference.

Handmade gifts are so lovely..making them. The thought and love are the best..I use to make my own and give them..then arthritis set in and I can hardly write a Christmas card..x

I started making an friend's Autistic son in his late 20's a Chocolate Hamper as he loves Chocolate, I got better value & this lasted longer & was greatly appreciated by my friend & her son..

My daughter decorated the box which they loved too..

Homemade shows you care...x

We have made hampers (as a present) before as you get far more for your money and the recipient gets things that they actually like! I like receiving them too 👍

It really depends what it is. I would love to receive any kind of home fudge but I am not really into home made nik naks. I do like it though when young children make a gift.

I started last year making my own Christmas cards and have done the same this year. I really enjoy making them. It makes someone more personal I believe. Even make a Christmas decoration to go with the card which my daughter helps with. Image

Love homemade gifts, both giving and receiving, much more though goes into them, even if not completely homemade, ie we will give cheese and chutney baskets, my own chutneys and picked onions, couple of cheeses and a mini wine

It depends what the homemade gift is. If it is something that we will use then I love a homemade gift but if it is something that will just sit in a cupboard then I feel it is a waste of time on the part of the person who made it.

Well i always value effort over price in gifts i receive so from that pov I’m more than happy to get home made. If it’s something I’d never use i’d rather have nothing.

Homemade gifts take time thought and lots of effort. But you always love to treasure the ones made by kids, be it at home or school. There are lots of craft fairs everywhere at xmas. Personally I am no good at crafting, though I stll have a sewing bag I made in school in primary 6.

Homemade, personalised things are more thoughtful and meaningful. I personally like personalised cards, decorated with photos

I think the 'homemade ' gives the wrong feeling. I prefer ' handmade' it somehow makes it feel more special. Any gift made especially for you contains so much love and thoughtfulness (and possibly much swearing) in my opinion

If someone has taken the time to make something then I obviously mean something to them.

I am no crafty in any way and so admire people who are. I love watching Kirstie's Handmade Christmas.

Its an unique and shows the person has thought about you. A friend used to make home made jam which was great as she know it was something I would like. However another used to give everyone the same thing, lavender bags, regardless of wether you were male or female, so it didn't mean as much 🙂
