It's a Shame More People Don't Use Chat.
Other
I guess if people aren't up for a chat that is fine but I personally love the interaction with others on here. Some subjects get a good discussion going and others don't get off the starting block. However when a thread is started it would be lovely if those who originally posted popped back to continue the chat with those who answer.
I agree Lynibis
I think one of the problems is people regularly posting rubbish chat threads trying to earn points for Amazon vouchers without realising (or perhaps caring) how dull and off-putting it is for other users when they click on a chat thread and find drivel underneath. Time and again the author really doesn't want or need an answer, asks a question that could easily be answered using Google Search or by reading Customer Product Reviews online. Even worse is posting a new thread and not bothering to look at it again, nor to reply to those people who have made the effort to respond. What a careless and greedy waste of other people's time!
I'd be happy if points were not given for Chat, and/or the ability to earn points for chat was turned off for those people posting stupid threads. I think it's heading that way.....
On a less grumpy note...Happy New Year!
Yes Johnny, you have confirmed what I was already thinking. I too would be happy not to have points for chat, I just enjoy engaging with others. Maybe the points could be added if you get 3 replies or some other computation. Actually I find it hard to understand some of them as one the other day asked if something was still for sale or in stock or something similar!
Happy New Year to you too!
Lynibis Ha ha. Thank you. Yes I saw that one too. It's probably from a newbie not realising that Latest Deals doesn't actually sell any products itself. I think the site gets quite a lot of new visitors via Google Search Results who probably don't understand how it works at first and just think it's an online store.
perhaps they need to change the points system, so you only get awarded points for subjects that trend? a bit like the points system LD have set up for liking a comment, where you get 5 points after 3 people have liked your comment (and 5 points for every like after that). I personally don't care - it doesn't award many points to start with, so makes little difference to me...although I did only start using the section more after LD decided to award points for chats myself...i'm always sceptical of using chat sections as that often calls out the trolls...but thankfully there don't seem to be many on here
Lynibis Johnny hspexy Nice to hear the comments from some like minded people. Reviewing the points system may stop the same few people posting their three topics a day. I am on this site because I enjoy it, not for what I can make out of it.
But then again, who are we to say a topic is drivel, some I choose to ignore seem to attract lots of comments.
Hi Jamala. For me it is not so much the content, although some are really silly and unnecessary, it's the fact they drop in a topic and never refer back to it even when someone takes the trouble to answer their query. So obviously point gathering. If it is ultra popular you wouldn't be able to reply to all but could do one reply encompassing all. But hey we live in an imperfect world and it is far too much to expect every one to have the exact same thought process of what is polite or not. Also, some may not even think that their contribution may be seen as an invite to chat and connect. I shouldn't worry about such things lol.
I agree with almost everything said - I do not post for points and don't want them or need them. I have only used Amazon on a few occasions (the last time I received counterfeit goods but Amazon didn't do anything about it - I didn't even get my money back). If anyone is interested I'll give details in my reply.
This points gathering has extended to the offers no names mentioned but a certain few will post any offer even when it's obvious the deal is a total RIP OFF. I refer to those offers many must have seen - things supposedly reduced from about £50 down to about £3 the same things can be found for even less with a simple web search or a trip to your local pound shop.
I did see one such offer where the thing was supposedly "reduced to £100 above" the usual going price and £25 MORE than the RRP. but that point gatherer still got his points.
Anyone who is fooled by such "offers", probably loses all respect for this site - which is very unfortunate.
Perhaps LD could give points to anyone checking out and reporting the NUMEROUS bogus offers. They're usually posted by people abusing the points system in every way they can. (I wouldn't be too surprised at multiple accounts from one of the worst perpetrators).
Incidentally I won't get any points for this - or my reply below.
What happened is I was expecting delivery of a banjo ukulele - when I had last bought strings for such over 40 years previously they were the same as for wooden ukulele strings (they still are if the player wishes to use them). I ordered a set of probably the best ukulele strings from Amazon (about £8)- when I came to put the strings on they were too short (they would have fitted a wooden ukulele) I checked the specifications online and when I found that they should have been long enough I contacted the manufacturers in Italy and explained my suspicions. The managing director, now a friend, was very grateful they had been plagued with people selling counterfeits of their strings - damaging their reputation - he sent me ten sets of genuine strings as a thankyou.
What did Amazon do? Absolutely nothing!
In my opinion it's fine as it is. Most people are here for bargains and chat is just secondary. There are plenty of other websites for interacting with others in order to fill a void.
You complain about repeat chat topics and then you make this topic which is similar to your previous topic: https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/chat/repeat-chat-subjects
It seems all you do is complain about trivial things.
Can you post something more positive instead?
From what I can see the topics ‘Repeat Chat Subjects’ and ‘It's a Shame More People Don't Use Chat’ are distinctly different.
The similarity is simply that both threads seek to improve the User Experience on Latest Deals.
There is nothing trivial or negative about providing constructive feedback. IMHO the overwhelming majority of Lynibis’s posts are, and aim to be, both constructive and positive.
Most LD users would probably like to see the number of users, deals, vouchers etc. continue to grow and the frequency of user visits increase (including to the Chat forum). Whilst it can be good to challenge other people’s points of view and opinions this should be done respectfully and thoughtfully.
For many users part of the attraction to Latest Deals in preference to other deal sites is that Latest Deals and its user community actively seek to engender a friendly environment, and that trolling (making a deliberate offensive post with the intention of upsetting someone or inciting an angry response) and personal attacks are not tolerated.
Johnny thank you for your supportive comment. I cannot see the one you are replying to as to avoid further upset I have muted the writer. This also prevents me from being provoked into an angry response.
Lynibis You didn't miss much by muting him Lynibis - he was just disagreeing with every one else's opinions. There are another two who seem to do exactly the same thing.
Well even Tom decided her other topic was inappropriate for latestdeals and was closed so I'm not the only one who thinks so https://www.latestdeals.co.uk/chat/inner-ugliness
deepcore To clarify, the Chat thread about Anna Soubry MP was closed because it was thought to be a political thread. A short while ago the community made a decision not to accept Chat threads about politics (and religion).
The Chat thread was not closed because for the other reasons suggested.
I have been a member of this site for a year and have only discovered chat. I didn't even know we got rewards for points haha
