Who Was Jack the Ripper?

Other

I am a true crime fan and I’m sure that a lot of us Latest Deal community have at least watched a little bit of true crime documentaries or read some true crime books .

I was thinking as we are all such a different mixture of personalities (all equally very intelligent) that together we can solve one of the most infamous crimes of all!!!! WHO WAS JACK THE RIPPER?

There have been so many theories that it is kind of hard to know what to believe. I find the case fascinating as the crimes were horrific and committed over a short period of time, then they just stopped!!! Why did they just STOP ? I mean thank goodness they did stop but a serial killer like that doesn’t usually stop until they are stopped.

Recently I read an article with a new theory that Jack The Ripper was actually a female??? So Jackie the ripper not Jack , ????? Could a woman have committed those crimes and what reason would she have had ?

Come on my fellow arm chair detectives what do you believe the truth is?

Looking online there are now reports that it was someone called Hyam Hyams who was permanently put away in a mental institution in 1889 shortly after the crimes stopped. They reckon analysing the description using modern techniques means he was extremely likely to be the ripper. I can't help thinking these are click bait stories though as I've read so many news stories about who was Jack the Ripper.

Honestly don't think we will ever find out who it was it changes all the time one minute it's a royal next it's a English man then someone from Poland

Heard it was a Royal doctor or something similar to that.

JLouM I remember that theory, in fact that was one theory that was believed for a very long time. I’m not sure if it was ever disproved because it doesn’t seem to be mentioned much when the case is ever discussed.

Pfs ...He was evil enough Yorkshire Ripper, caught in Sheffield near where my late Dad was working & my brother & sister went to school at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Secondary School,Cavendish Street, off West Street,,not far from Sheffield centre..

I remember my brother taking me past his old school, across the duel carriageway & on to the red light district where that monster was caught..

My daughter's college lecturer's mate was the person in Peter Sutcliffe's car when he was pulled up in Sheffield...She could have been his next victim..

I'm currently watching The Long Shadow about The Yorkshire Ripper....

janphoenix51 he was evil as I remember it coming on Piccadilly radio 📻 saying there has been another murder when I was a small child and mum was scared to go out as we lived in greater Manchester

janphoenix51 that was another awful case . The worst part of it is there was so many chances he should have been caught much sooner . He matched so much of the criteria they had . They had boot prints and he wore boots of same brand and same size . His car had been seen a number of times in the red light area . The £5 note that was found in the handbag of one of his victims was traced to payroll issued to the company he worked for. There were other reasons I can’t remember but he had been interviewed by police a number of times as his name came up for the various reasons mentioned above. However because of the recording of the hoaxer pretending to be the murderer having a different accent he wasn’t given enough attention. One P.C even spoke to the officer on charge because he suspected Peter Sutcliffe. However when asked if Peter Sutcliffe had “the accent “ he was told to move on . When he protested he was reprimanded. I dread to think how many more victims there would have been if Peter Sutcliffe hadn’t been stopped routinely the night he was arrested. Didn’t he have a lady in his car with his tools for his evil crimes. I know he tried to ditch the hammer when he was allowed to go to urinate by a tree! Luckily the police officer had a look around the tree and found the hammer . I’m not being nasty but his wife was a little strange too . She was a local school teacher but her behaviour was at best “odd “. I’m not saying she knew anything about his crimes , in fact I think she was quite oblivious but still a strange woman.

Heres another possible i pasted from google N

Aaron Kosminski

His name was discovered in the 20th century in contemporary documents written by police officials who had investigated the Ripper case. He was described as having “a great hatred of women...with strong homicidal tendencies.” Aaron Kosminski - Jack The Ripper Prime Suspect?Aug 9, 2023

Imnotcheap Cheers I , now that makes sense, the ripper had anatomical knowledge which is why they suspected a doctor or butcher

The jill the ripper theory is very unlikely, yes would have made getting away from scenes easier but women don't kill that way.

Personally I'm drawn to the Francis tumblty theory an American quack

Imnotcheap I agree with you there . Although there have been a few exceptions with women who have killed. However statistics show women are more likely to use poison , much cleaner than all that blood but very painful method for the victim , very nasty way to do it .

Thanks for the update C

Its a shame there wasn't DNA around then, they could have matched samples from the victims with possible suspects and found the right man

Even if they still had clothing stored now in archives they could still possibly do it. but they would need the rippers clothes too and i doubt if they had kept any clothes from the suspects

I think this will be an all time mystery, the same as what happened to Lord Lucan

jam45 I don’t believe it , I was just filling in the gaps. I’m fact I’m sure it was proven a complete hoax anyway. You know how some of want their 5 minutes of fame and claim all sorts of things . Like I mentioned in another comment because someone was pretending to be the Yorkshire ripper it completely ruined the investigation. The officer in charge got tunnel vision and wouldn’t look at anyone as a suspect unless they had the accent as the “hoaxer” on the recordings. Even though the Yorkshire ripper Peter Sutcliffe had been brought to the investigation’s attention a number of times he was dismissed due to the hoax.

I just thought it was interesting to see how many theories are out there still. I don’t think us armchair detectives are going to magically solve the case, but it’s still very interesting topic of discussion.

Carl Ferdinand Feigenbaum, a German merchant seaman, is a strong candidate. He is believed to have been in London at the time of the murders. He was later executed at Sing Sing Prison in 1896 after being convicted of another gruesome murder. There is a 2011 documentary about him, Jack the Ripper: The German Suspect.

I highly doubt jack the ripper’s identity can be found. So many “experts” have tried but we have no definitive answer. Then again I remember reading about a lady in america who managed to solve a lot of crimes that the police couldn’t and now that’s her professional job so you never know!

It’s just strange that he committed such gruesome acts over a three year period then stopped! There must be reasoning behind it? Then again we are all at a disadvantage because we are looking at it through our eyes with a sound mind. Therefore we can never make sense of the reasoning’s of a mad man/woman

Nickyhaslam77 Doesn't have to be mad just extremely sadistic. Lots of violent killers are extremely rational except enjoy performing violent acts on other people. Lots of mad people are completely non violent too.

BonzoBanana I think I used the incorrect wording . I meant the people with sociopathic tendencies. I agree a lot of them are highly intelligent and very likeable. Take Ted Bundy for instance . There was another serial killer who was very charming and that’s how he managed to get his victims to go with him. His name eludes me but he was actually on a dating show . He would pretend to be a photographer asking young impressionable girls if he could take their pictures.?
