Should Kids Get More Time off for Christmas?
Ask a Question
Should kids get more time off for Christmas? Do you think 2 weeks is enough?
Ours breaks up 3 days before Christmas which feels really late.
SamGoodship I liked the idea of less summer holiday break and 4 terms per year. That was suggested a while ago.
Well it’s a tough one cause parents who rely on childcare would have to take more time off or pay out more to watch their kids. It’s always 3 or 4 days before Christmas which seems late to me as well
Personally I'd rather have more time in the summer then winter. As its warmer do can do more
comriegold Mine was being home educated before and during most of the covid times so didn't miss any thankfully.
Two weeks Is more than enough. Do you get two weeks off for Christmas? I doubt It. I know I don’t. Would I like two weeks off? Yes but it’s not going to happen. If you got kids then It Is up to you to look after them. I know my parents did. It’s that simple.
The school break before Christmas was always really late. Been teaching for 10 years and have always finished either 2 or 3 days before Christmas. Was the same when I was at school. Most people work till Christmas eve so 22nd isn't too bad. 2 weeks is enough.
MrsCraig Most people I know don't 'break' up for christmas at all anymore. My partner used to work in a supermarket and most year would be finishing work after 11pm on christmas eve and be back in on boxing day.
SamGoodship yeah plenty of my friends still do that, they work Christmas eve and are back in on Boxing day. I've done it myself in the past. It was usually double pay so I always did it for the extra wages
I'm extra busy just before Christmas so breaking up late is good for me. I'm not allowed to take time off in December either
No they have plenty of time.off as it is, anymore time off and they may aswell just give up going all together
slightfoot I don't think you can really equate a few days off to no education at all lol
SamGoodship I mean the amount of school hols in general, they don't need anymore, a few days befor Christmas is enough, especially if the parents are working, I know my friends struggle with childcare costs already without even more days. I'm sure my answer would be different if I was still a kid at school though, lol
I used to love it when my children were off school and would have liked longer holiday time but now they are older and not at school, can’t stand the school holidays.
I went to boarding school so the terms were quiet a bit different to "normal" schools. We didnt get half terms but did get a much longer Christmas holiday - but shorter summer break - we essentially got the three holidays which were about the same length so much better spread out. If I remember it rightly we got 4 weeks Christmas and about the same for the other two proper holidays. I was never bothered at the shorted Summer holiday as our school was near the North Cornwall coast so it was like a holiday from Plymouth anyway!
Absolutely not. If teachers/kids can get 13 weeks a year off, then as equality must play a part, then so should the worker. However, as that will never happen, the kids and teachers should only get 4-5 weeks off a year, plus bank holidays.
