Do Kids Have Too Much Time off School?
Ask a Question
Do you think kids get TOO much time off school?
Thankfully I work from home so I'm able to juggle childcare okay with husband who works a later shift but if I didn't I don't know what we'd do as we don't have any family close by,
Yes, I do. If you consider that pupils at public schools are taught for longer each day and if they are boarders then they do many extra curricular activities in the evenings and weekends too so their 'learning time' is even longer. It then follows that children in the state system are at a severe disadvantage by having a far shorter day and also by having a far greater ratio of children per teacher.
I don't think the holidays are any different to what they used to be, but the problem is all these extra days off for training days, bad weather, strike action and anything else that the schools can think off to get a day off . It's not all about academic education thou , children also learn through play, socialising , exploring , foreign holidays etc .
No. I work in education.it gets to the holidays everyone is shattered. There's a limit of making kids sit and learn. They don't learn social skills in schools or burn the energy up as they are forced to sit quietly all day
Jerseydrew Mine is most definitely NOT shattered lol. She thrives off the school environment and finds it hard being home.
SamGoodship wow thats awesome. As professional I'm glad that school us a positive. For a lot its not. I hope it stays that way for her. Mine loves it at the moment but she's a teen sk who knows if it'll last. Down time is needed and break from the stress of routine for all is important. I know I need a break from the early mornings and getting out the door to work without wanting to have a breakdown and be this cheery person as soon as I get to work as the kids and parents don't expect it
Kids these days have more breaks than ITV. I don’t remember having lots of time off when I was at School. In fact I or we didn’t.
There was talk a few years ago to have four terms over the year but it never went any further.
Makes no difference to me as we homeschool but no I think they should leave it as it is for the kids and teachers
