Have the Newspapers Found the Identity of Banksy ?
Ask a Question
It seems the newspapers are associating Banksy with a 30 year old album cover, relating it to his art
They are naming him as possibly being 53 year old Bristol-born Robin Gunningham
I personally like his artwork, he is a breath of fresh air in the pretentious world of art, especially modern
Good luck to him i say
Do you like his art ?

I think he is very talented, but to be honest I would sooner not have known, I liked the mystery surrounding him.
I agree with Lynibis that his anonymity added to the artwork and the fact that they could pop up anywhere and with any topic was brilliant. It will be a great shame if they have named him but have they got the right man??
I'm not convinced it's just one man, there are some theories that it's a group/collective, had must at the very least have a look out, so he doesn't get caught!!!
I have heard that name before several years ago. Good street artist though. I dont live too far from Bristol and have seen his artwork before when I use to drive through the City at night.
After his art work in the Southampton General Hospital it would be easy to spot him on cctv and the staff kept stum.
I'd prefer his or her identity to kept secret if this is true, he or she should be left alone to let them do what they do.
This name has been suggested for years as the true identity of banksy. Either way it’s amazing he’s managed to keep his identity under-wraps for so long.
Here's an interesting fact
I didnt realise graffiti artists had been going this long
Who was the first graffiti artist?
Darryl McCray
Born Darryl McCray, AKA 'Cornbread' , is generally acknowledged to be the first modern graffiti artist, who got his start tagging in Philadelphia during the late 1960s
Do I like his art? No, it comes off as pretentious and pretends to be "anti-establishment," yet it's more about it than anything else.
Someone who's against the system wouldn't act like that.
I saw an exhibition he did many years ago in Bristol museum. It was amazing, I quite like the mystery around his/her or their identity. So I hope it stays a mystery.
I think his work is brilliant and inspiring, keep the mystic and keep his identity private. Go Get Um Banksy!
He's been confirmed as Robin Gunningham by the high court now according to an article I've Just seen.
Midnightflower I think The Sun newspaper said it was him, many, many years ago. This is old news. A middle class, public school educated "artist".
shame that he has had to be revealed like this. Still enjoy much of his work though so i hope it continues
I like Banksy, some of his artwork is amazing...
In Sheffield we have a graffiti artist known as Pleghm, although talented, his work is grey & black..
