Old Duvets What to Do with Them?

Wanting to get a new duvet as the current one I’m using is old and the filling inside has come apart.
But what can you do with the old one?
Is there a place that recycles them?
It also seems a waste and don’t want to get rid of it but have no place in the house for it and don’t see the point keeping it if going to buy a new one!
I think some stores do a textiles take back recycling scheme, something to look into, not sure if Dunelm does it. Could you donate to a homeless charity?

And Dunelm store is far from where I live and don’t have access to car and duvet to big to carry on bus lol not that I would go all the way there
Take It to Dunelm If you have one nearby. But If you live near these ones they will not accept: Carmarthen, Crawley, Jersey, Feltham, Kidderminster, Llanelli, Loughborough, Scarborough or Yeovil.
Where is the Textile Take Back fixture located in store? This varies from store to store, but the Textile Take Back fixture can usually be found at the entrance, under the stairs, or at the exit. Please speak to a colleague in store, who will direct you to the unit
My elderly neighbour has some very clean duvets and eiderdowns which she would like to donate. She phoned the Salvation Army and they told her they don’t collect. The person she spoke to told her to drop them off at their place. As she is nearly 90 yrs old that’s not possible. As it’s quite a distance from our area the items won’t be donated. Is there anywhere they can be donated.
We donate our old ones to a homeless charity they wash them and then give them to the homeless
People on our local Facebook group offer them free. Often they’re taken as dog bedding so check your local group.

I put my stuff in green salvation bins. The ones by us send unusable ones to be made into sleeping bag insudes

Our local kennels are always after this sort of thing for bedding, may be worth trying that option.

They go on the bin usually, we turned our last one into a dog bed, folded and stitched it and put a cover on

I would cut into small squares and then stuff some new cushion covers to give my sitting room a cheap makeover.
Lynibis That is a really good idea, hopefully this will solve the problem with the big duvet. So many options on here to sort out getting rid of a duvet.
eyeballkerry thanks. I am no good at crafting per se but can manage basic stuff. Currently I am using up odds and ends of wool to make a sort of patchwork blanket. Who knows, it may be handed down as a family heirloom!
Lynibis Its great you are recycling. It’s a great way to save money and you are helping the environment. I used to be a bit of a hoarder and think one day I will have a use for it.

I usually donate mine.
Often dog charities need them, especially those with larger breeds like many greyhound rescue centres.
Some homeless charities accept them.
They are also great for on top of outdoor hutches and runs in the winter, to help keep rabbits or similar insulated.
You can put them on OLIO app, freecycle, facebook groups, freely wheely, freegle.
Freeads, preloved, shpock and gumtree - many of these selling sites have a free section too.
I think you can donate them to charities who cater for the homeless and shelters etc. God knows they need them this weather and we are not even into the heart of bitter winter yet.
