If You Could Would You Pay £2.1 Million for a Bottle of Whisky ?

I know the price of drinks have increased dramatically over the last few years, but this bottle of whisky is expensive by anyones standards, at a record cost of £2.1 million
The problem is you buy it unopened , so won't know what it tastes like until you open it
It says in the article the cork has been replaced and the label corners re glued
So who is to say someone hasn't drained the contents and replaced it with cheap a johnnie walker from tescos ?
Besides the average time a half bottle of opened whisky will stay good is two years
A bottle with less than that only 6 months
So you would need to consume it within these time limits to get the best taste from it
Personally i would prefer a bottle of baileys , a lot cheaper and enjoyable, would you ?
I don't hate it but get zero pleasure from drinking it. There are no spirit alcohols I like. I don't mind it as a background flavouring like a Christmas pudding. So if I had a couple million to spare I certainly wouldn't be buying Whiskey unless it was an investment that I was sure would increase in value.
BonzoBanana The only thing close to whisky i like is southern comfort B , and thats only because it is sweet
telmel I don't think I've ever tried that. I've made a mental note to try it if I'm ever offered it. I absolutely love the smell of Baileys, one of the nicest smells I think but again sadly no pleasure from drinking it.
Hilarious. Is this a serious question? No chance its a bottle of whisky. Crazy what people soend money on
Jerseydrew I know the price is not a comparison J but look at the prime drink craze, people paying ridiculous amounts for an energy drink , so i suppose the same applies here, but you need to be very rich and a collector to afford this
No, I don't like whiskey, some people have nothing better to do with their money, I hope it tastes like dish water
martinlufc5637 The collector may never know if he doesn't open it M , some would keep it to see the price increase to resell , but that would be funny if it was
No I would not but I do like an Irish Cream from time to time. I would have better things to do with that money otherwise.
I like whiskey but I'd be too frightened to drink it. I'm after a baileys for Christmas myself it's that time to try to judge the best deals
Imnotcheap My dad used to make his own I , i did once , and it was not bad , always worth a go if you have a spare bottle of whisky stuck in the cupboard for a few years like i had

Imnotcheap Its so easy I and quick , look on the internet , loads of different recipes , heres two, only 6 ingredients , i didnt use chocolate syrup in mine though
Don't like Whisky but was at an Irish Wake yesterday for the family I grew up with who's Dublin born Dad had passed away..We all had a tot of Jamisons Whisky to celebrate & remember their Dad,was given a second one but managed to give it away! The man's family had come over from Ireland & his Irish Niece sang Fields Of Athenry at Shiregreen Cemetery, Sheffield yesterday,it was beautiful..
The pub where he spent his last 2-3 years turned Irish for the day,staff & family wore Shamrock or Irish Flags Badges or Brooches on their lapels..My baby brother wore our late Mum's Irish Flag Badge she left to him 14 years ago..
It was a fantastic send off for a much loved family friend.
There were a few Whiskys going down!!
janphoenix51 My friend was Scottish and from Paisley and took me to a working mans club there years ago for Burns night
It was very rough in there, but had a great night , haggis, neeps and tatties - and clootie dumpling and of course the whisky was flowing despite i don't drink it normally

I have a friend I used to work with ,she & her late husband were originally from Kilmarnock but settled in Sheffield a lovely generous couple.

No that's ridiculously. I wouldn't have thought a collecter would want it either as you say it's been opened and re sealed. Far better things to spend that money on like a house and bills
I hate most spirits. Maybe the new owners bought it as an investment like a piece of artwork.
I’d like to think that no matter how much money i have i’d never spend so much on something like this. People are starving and then other people are spending £2mn on whiskey, not a fair world at all
In the year I was born my Dad bought a bottle of whisky. He kept it for when I 'came of age' so we could have a celebration drink. Even though I quite like a whisky we never did get round to opening it! 52 years on it's still in my cupboard. I don't think it will be worth £2.1 Million sadly.

Don't like the taste of alcohol, and would like to think l have more sense than money 
When bottles are paid an extortionate amount for I always wonder will they store it as an investment or will they drink it. I also ponder on what I would do and whether it would taste off as its so old or corked or disappointing, but I'd opened it so the value is gone. If I'd paid a fortune for it I would want to know what it tasted like. Its a dilemma that I'm glad I can't afford. Some people have too much money to be able to pay that much for 1 bottle. If I had recorked that bottle I would have a sip or even a swig if it was good x
All this talk of whiskey reminded me of one of my favourite music tracks of all time
