What Do You Do with Your Pets on Bonfire Night ?
Ask a Question
I find a big problem with my dog and the noise from fireworks
Unfortunately it is not just november the 5th, they seem to start well before that date and after
Not forgetting New Year
Normally i put mine in the bedroom with the tv sound on loud to drown out the bangs
A friends dog goes crazy with the noise, shaking and crying
The biggest problem is if you are not at home to comfort them
Then i got to thinking can you get noise cancelling headphones for dogs
The answer is yes, but they are extremely expensive
They have them on a US website, pawnix.com/ prices are nearly $200 a pair !!!, then you have shipping costs and import duties on top
They do a wide selection there inbuilt into helmets or with chin straps
There are a limited amount on amazon, but only with headstraps or cowlings
www.amazon.co.uk/Famikako-Protection-Cancelling-Headphones-Fireworks/dp/B0BM71CP91?th=1
Maybe you could make a DIY helmet
A pair of your own noise cancelling headphones with an elasticated cowling to cover and secure them on your dog
What do you do to solve this problem and what do cat owners do , it is even more difficult for them i imagine ?
I used to have dogs but now only have two cats but I will definitely be bringing them inside every night fireworks are going off. I wish it was just one night and be done with.
Used to shut them in the bedroom with lights on and radio on znd curtains closed. One was fine if he couldn't see the lights the other got stressed by it. They got better when they moved in with their granny as her 2 cats weren't bothered by anything. One was deaf so clueless but it was a blessing fir one of mine as he had really bad anxiety
Jerseydrew Yes their hearing is so acute when younger J, a loud bang must be unbearable for pets
We have a dog that's not bothered by them at all, he likes to sit at the backdoor and watch the Fireworks, he is quite friendly, outgoing and nosey thou just likes to be around people generally. Mind you if the house fell down around him he's probably just sleep through it
Harvey the woofer doesn't like fireworks. We shut the curtains, put the light on and watch a film with the soundbar on loud.
We would normally have morons setting off fireworks by now, but we haven't had any so far this year. Hopefully it'll be a quiet Guy Fawkes on Sunday
We are very lucky with our 2 current dogs, they aren't overly bothered by them.
In the past most of our Labradors hated them though, so it was loud music in every room and lots of reassurance.
telmel Seems that way, Weird though as our Labradors were from good gun dog stock - they'd have been the first gun dogs to wear ear protectors if they'd become working dogs.
Our last dog couldn't careless about bonfire night but our new addition hates fireworks banging ect... We will stay home this year
My cat is fine but I don't let him out on the night or few days round it as I worry he could get spooked or worse always idiots around
My JRT is not too bothered by them, never has been. My previous dog, an alsation hated them tho. Was terrified. I'd just shut blinds & turn volume up & try & distract by playing. My brother used a thundershirt on his dog & swore it helped.
Partner & I let our cats have a few hours out during day light hours & get them in before the Fireworks start, one hates Fireworks the other loves them, sits on the window sill watching them shoot into the air with all the colours floating down ...
Our Student Radiographer daughter is home this weekend for her friend's birthday party so will also keep an eye on the cats as I'm on shift today, part of tomorrow & all Sunday..
telmel ,yes cos it's my little black cat Phoenix who's scared,he's usually friendly following people & Torti Topaz is usually the nervous one yet sits in the window watching all the colours light up the sky!
I don't do anything with her. She doesn't bother about the fireworks, never has. She slept right through them last year.
Classic FM do a special pet night, designed to block out noise of fireworks and keep them relaxed, works a treat for our 21 year old cat, she just sat with us last year, chilled out to the radio
My partner is scared of them because of being Exmilitary. And All of my animals are scared of fireworks. The dogs go behind the sofa, and the cats hide in their bed, and fireworks are very loud. I think people buy them from the market because they are cheap
Classic FM puts in a special show every year, it's on today and tomorrow 5pm-9pm, specifically designed to help your pets stay calm
