Prisoners Will Be Sent to Rented Cells Overseas amid Overcrowding Crisis

In the News

First we had the attempt to send illegal immigrants to camps in Rwanda, now the government are considering sending prisoners overseas also , due to the overcrowding situation here

They are considering renting cells in prisons in other countries and paying all the associated costs involved , who knows how much that will cost !!!

The first thing that came to my mind was why are there so many spaces available in prisons abroad but ours are overun with convicted criminals ?

Could it be because the UK is so soft dealing with criminals that prison is the easy option, most are like holiday camps or hotels , some better

Maybe the government should start looking at this and follow the example of other countries ?

It's complicated it's about breaking cycles. In other countries the sentences are longer and you do get repeat offenders. Some will purposely reofffnd get caught because its winter they are homeless or can't afford heating but prison will give them warmth. Someone local to me purposely reoffended just before Christmas because he hated Christmas because he spent it on his own because his family had enough of him so cut him off and he put himself inside so he'd be with others.

I sometimes wonder if I am living in an alternative universe. If they chose a couple of hundred folk from the streets I don't think they could be any worse at running the country.

Take the worst ones to the worst prisons and leave them there

Leannexxx I think what is happening now is they are leaving the more dangerous ones in prison but releasing the ones that have committed lesser crimes to free up space, a very dangerous practice L

Leannexxx yep, me too. Plenty of isolated islands around. Give 'em seeds to grow fruit and veg, a few animals for meat, milk cheese etc and leave them to it. No Wi-Fi and just candles and log fires. Wonder how they would get on.

Leannexxx nah I would like to see it as an experiment on a new penal code. It would be interesting to see if they could work together to overcome their situation. Knowing human nature I expect they would soon have a leader who would use violence to control the weaker ones, he and his little gang would get all the others doing the work while they sat back and enjoyed the fruits of their labours.

Just keep overcrowding the prisons we have and run them as cheaply as possible. There are people who have committed no crimes living on the street, freezing at night and not knowing where their next meal is coming from. It seems ridiculous to worry about vile evil people with no consideration for others. We need people coming out of prison who will never ever go back due to the conditions in there.

BonzoBanana but come on there's some people in prisons that don't need to be like not having the money to pay council tax and the bbc wanted it for the TV licence now the scum of the earth as I call them would be in a room with nothing and only get bread and water

Leannexxx The TV license is a crime in itself I certainly don't think people should be forced to pay it but if you are watching BBC channels or using iplayer it is theft. What I disagree with is people watching advert funded channels like itv needing a TV license. As for council tax it is a tax we need to pay. Yes the politicians are useless and waste lots of money but unfortunately we still need to pay it. However as I have said numerous times we should have 2 separate types of prisons for people, violent offenders and non violent offenders and its really the violent offender prisons I really don't care about. I'd have non-violent offenders working off their sentence in a type of slavery being hard worked in fields farming etc.

BonzoBanana Unfortunately that will never happen B, there are too many do gooders about protesting over their human rights

But where are the victims human rights when someone is assaulted , robbed or worse ?

I would give the victims the choice of the criminals punishment , but again it would never happen

JLouM We might all be living on barges soon J if it carries on the way it is , whether through overcrowding or climate change , it will be like the 1995 film Waterworld with Kevin Costner 😟
