Pushy, Almost Rude, Emails Do You Get Them

Other

As an avid Comper I have accepted that I will receive masses of emails from the companies who sponsor the comps. Often subscribing is compulsory and even if it's not I feel I should or my chance of winning may be less.

But as a result i often browse and then get bombarded with more emails saying 'we noticed you looking' 'thinking about buying this' and worse, 'you haven't opened our emails, is this the end'. Just stop sending them already! If I wanted to buy I would do so and spying on me will not help you getting a sale!

I must get 100+ per day, how about you?

I just mark them as spam that way they don't pop up

Leannexxx why didn't I think of that? I get a lot of spam but I do check it briefly as I once had a comp win in spam which I nearly missed out on. I suppose I could just mark the ones that don't do comps.

Lynibis yeah and if you check your spam and the comps you want that go into change them so they go in your in box

Lynibis hahaha it's easy to do on mine I keep my finger on the one I want and it has 3 dots at the top and in that it says change label and it will go where you want it to go

Just put them in my junk/spam folder and delete.

JLouM I will do that in future with the ones that hassle me. But I feel obliged to check as they might have a deal I can post or a comp to enter. I am going to stop doing this one day as it's such a waste of time.

Lynibis I think just deal with the ones that donโ€™t hassle you and leave the rest. Your time is valuable.

I do get more emails than one can actually get through some days and then I spend a while unsubscribing to many.

eyeballkerry Yes I do this every so often, but that in itself is time consuming. Often you click unsubscribe and you then get yet another email asking you to confirm your choice๐Ÿค”

I just regularly unsubscribe. To avoid the annoying 'we noticed you looking' e-mails, I go to their website directly to browse instead of using their e-mail link which they use to track you ๐Ÿ˜€

Consumer I had no idea to go directly to their website. I just accepted 'we noticed you looking' and click onto their email. I will be deleting the unwanted emails I have been getting weekly for years.

You can always unsubscribe once the competition is closed. I find they normally send me discount codes to entice me to buy, so I Okay with it, but then I only get about 30 emails a day, which is manageable ๐Ÿ™‚

beccatavender I must admit I do not keep track of all the comps I enter so I am worried about unsubscribing before the comp has ended. I really will start winding down soon as I haven't won a thing for well over a year whereas previously an average of 1 per month was pretty normal.

Lynibis I can honestly say except for the odd raffle I have never won anything, I am not even lucky on the tombola. So I am always pleased to hear that people do win. Fingers crossed you win something soon.

beccatavender ah bless, I would happily forgo a win so you get at least one as I reckon I have had my fair share over the years. Will maybe give up comping for a year or two then come back fresh.

Lynibis Oh, that's so sweet, hope you go back to it, if it's something you enjoy, as the saying goes you have to be in it to win it! Take care.

I recently won a competition and apparently I was the third person selected as the other two previous winners didn't respond and they had a decent time limit to respond within. I mean I was delighted as I LOVED the prize, but I was thinking it was likely people that were overwhelmed with their inboxes and missed it.

I've got a couple of different email addresses for different uses.

I regularly check the one I use to enter competitions with for 'Congrats' 'Congratulations' 'Winner' and similar and skim through the rest. (You can get it to do this automatically and put them in a different folder.) But these don't usually search the junk/spam folder.

You can unsubscribe if you know that it was because you entered a competition, although I only sign up to the ones you are REQUIRED to, to enter (which actually they aren't allowed to do) or newsletter I am genuinely interested in.

Those that you didn't sign up to and they email you saying you stopped by, I'd understand marking as spam. If it is a newsletter, I don't think it is fair to mark as spam, as this can change the algorithm of the companies emails to being automatically put into spam, when they aren't spam and you signed up for it.

Don't unsubscribe if you enter theirs regularly though, as they can usually see and they will know.

DeBunny Good comment and good luck for you that the others did not respond to their winning email. I get really annoyed with folk on Spin to Win on This Morning when they enter and then just say hello instead of the catch phrase! How gutted would you be!?

I didn't realise they weren't allowed to make you sign up. Some give a genuine choice but others ask you to check the box and if you don't it will say something like 'this field is required'.

Like anything if you are forced into subscribing it makes you not want to and can't be good for them. I often prefer to not enter than be forced. (Unless it's a really great prize๐Ÿ˜‚)

I dont think you need to tick all the boxes when entering a competition, only the ones with an asterix , and i dont think it will affect your chances of winning, they have to abide by a code and cannot penalise you as long as you tick the required boxes

I also get more than a hundred spam e mails a day as i have been entering competitions for years , i just accept them as par of the course to reap the possible rewards

The only thing i worry about is unsubscribing to their e mails, if you enter a competition and unsubscribe before the end date, will they still send you an e mail to say you have won ?

You are sending a message to say you don't want to hear from them by unsubscribing

So i tend not to unsubscribe any as i cannot keep track of all i have entered daily

I used to win prizes regularly at one time , but just lately the wins have been sparse

As i mentioned previously more are going to social media , especially instagram, and i am not a great fan of them, so miss out quite a few when i think they may not be genuine

Unfortunately this is the way it seems to be going

I prefer the companies own competitions on their websites

Lynibis You haven't won anything this year??

I have been unsubscribing like mad, about 20 a day for a week, then I wait to see what is still coming in and do it all again a couple of weeks later.... especially with Christmas coming, last year I was getting 1,000 a day over Christmas (Mental!)

Lynibis I certainly haven't won as much but have had a few. I do think there are more people entering these days, less competitions and generally smaller prizes too so it's a triple whammy. Keep at it, I hope you'll break the drought soon ๐Ÿ’

Wow Lynibis l could of written your post word for word, due to entering competitions l too get bombarded with emails and l just delete them all without opening and when l get the 'you haven't opened our email or is this good bye' , l just chuckle to myself and think 'how rude' guess it's goes with the territory ๐Ÿ˜„, l also just delete all in spam everyday without opening too ๐Ÿคฃ

Pinkspirit ha ha, yes I guess it is common to all who enter competitions. I don't subscribe unless I really have to but I would say it is 50/50. I was surprised to read DeBunny comment that they are not allowed to make you subscribe, I really didn't know that. Obviously no one is keeping an eye on this.

Just a few spam emails that somehow bypass the spam filter. Never click on any links or attachments they have as it could be a virus or so.

PhilipMarc not exactly spam if you have signed up for them when entering comps. Lots are crafty by heading saying congratulations we have a winner and you open to find,..........it's not you๐Ÿ˜‚

Either mark as spam or what a lot of people suggest is setting up an email address dedicated for entering competitions and taking advantage of free offers that require an email.

jms19 I am such a feather head. I do have an address for comps but when my saved info pops up I often click wrong one and then if I notice, can't be bothered to change it and now I seen to have almost as many on my personal one as the comp one!

Never mind, as I said earlier I am going to unsubscribe all emails for at least a year and stop entering comps. If and when I come back to it I will start fresh and only subscribe when it is strictly necessary.๐Ÿ˜€

Pinkspirit yes they are spam, I got dozens until I blocked them. You can usually tell by hovering over their email address, if it's gobbledeygook you can bet it's spam. A self respecting company running a comp would have a proper email address. Please don't open them, you will get loads from same senders and that is not right either.

I get spam emails that somehow dodge the spam filter from time to time so I just send them to the spam folder, anyway.

They might fool folks who aren't too savvy, but not me. I don't even open links directly through an email message due to skepticism (instead I go to the website itself as I would). ๐Ÿ˜†
