Would You Queue for 18 Hours to Try a New Restaurant ?

Ask a Question

'Well blow me down' , as the spinach muncher used to say

People queuing up to get into a new restaurant , Popeyes in Scotland

They are very popular in the US and have over 4,000 outlets worldwide

People started queuing at 4.30 am ,18 hours before the grand opening

Why people have to be the first to try it is a mystery to me

I could not be bothered and would wait a day or two to let the excitement die down

No way would I queue for anything for that amount of time. You see people camping out for sales, definitely not me, I struggle in a supermarket queue.

Not a chance I would queue for 18hrs for a restaurant. I would be happy waiting till it's less popular and go with no queue, if it's a restaurant that constantly has queues then it looks like I won't go. Popeye's is not the most fabulous of places worthy of a queue more than 10min

That is absolutely madness, why would anybody queue for that length of time! I certainly wouldn't.

Now I've always wanted to try popeyes but I wouldn't even queue for 30minutes let alone 18 hours. I'm guessing most of them were influencers or wanna be influencers. If they go next week they will be waiting like 10 minutes.

It seems the second world war was to blame for queuing , a case of the government trying to control the people even back then

Heres a bit of history of it and a link to more

www.yours.co.uk/leisure/nostalgia/the-british-etiquette-of-queuing/

Why are British people known for queuing?

But what really shaped Britain's reputation as civilised queuers was World War II. "Propaganda at the time was all about doing your duty and taking your turn," says Bradley. "It was a way the government tried to control a situation in uncertain times."

I really can’t understand why people would wait in any kind of queue like that just to taste food 🤔 I don’t have the patience to wait in McDonalds these days and that’s when it’s not even busy 😂

There may have been a prize incentive for the first 50 - 100 customers through the door. Companies, such as Tim Hortons, offer a decent selection of prizes, such as free drinks for a year, at new location openings. But, 18 hours is chicken feed in comparison to waiting 30+ years for some beef croquettes in Japan - edition.cnn.com/travel/article/japan-kobe-beef-croquettes-30-year-waitlist/index.html (The waitlist has risen to 35+ years since this article was published).

(Follow up) 6 customers won 'free chicken sandwiches for a year' at the Popeyes opening and there were other prizes on offer - www.thescottishsun.co.uk/money/11237906/scotland-first-popeyes-free-chicken-year/

ACR It would make sense if you had free meals for the year but it is only for the first three vehicles and pedestrians

And those first three cars aren't going anywhere

Surely those queuing way behind would give up knowing this ?

The next 25 only get a sandwich and merchandise, not worth an 18 hour wait in my opinion

If they gave the first hundred a draw ticket to win one of the 3 tickets then it might be worth the wait , but thats not the way they do it

Very strange 🤔

Popeyes chicken is delicious. But no, I would never queue 18 hours to eat it. Especially given that you could just wait until the next day and not queue at all. But it is Scotland, and they are obsessed with anything deep fried, so I'm not too shocked.

I'm still sour that we lost the opportunity to get Chick-fil-A restaurants in the UK. They do the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. They tried to open in the UK, but whiney SJW protestors stopped it from happening because the owners of Chick-fil-A are Christians and hold Christian views. Pathetic.

We have a Popeye's opening soon here and I don't care how good the food is, I'm not queueing that long for it!

They're offering free food to the first so many customers so I can understand the urge to queue, but it's a chicken burger that costs a few quid. You're not saving much 😂

Aaaaahhhhhh NO not a chance. if I go into a shop that’s busy I’ll walk out of it never mind waiting to queue. There’s new The Range store opened in our hometown this morning and im sure there were plenty of people queuing to get into it and will be queuing at it all day and probably the next wk or 2. I don’t do queuing anywhere for anything. Life’s too short too spend time queuing
