Should We Get Rid of Xmas Cake?

Ask a Question

Should we get rid of Christmas Cake?

Nigella says nobody in her family likes it and it just ends up gathering dust on the worktop.

martinlufc5637 Must admit I've only come around to the cheese/fruitcake combo a couple of years ago, now I love it.

I enjoy Christmas cake if the marzipan isn't too thick. Although we were gifted one a few years ago which was so dry it was eventually given to the birds to enjoy.

I love Christmas Cake. What is not to love about Marzipan, Icing and fruit. Just yummy. Better than a typical sponge cake. At least it fills that spot with a cup of tea.

aaaaaa8 Christmas cake and Christmas pudding uses the same ingredients but uses different cooking methods. Mince pies is encrust in pastry. I used to help making the above at school for various charities.

The only Xmas cake I've liked is the one my friend made. Sadly, she has rheumatoid arthritis and doesn't bake anymore.

Basically, she soaked all her fruit in brandy 2 month before . It was the one 😋😋😋😋😋

We love Christmas cake, but it's usually just too much at Christmas with all the other sweet things around also , so invariably it takes us days to get through one.

Yeah i’m not a fan either tbh but i know a lot of people who do like it. I think it’s an old school dessert that older generations love

Nigella isn't the law on what people eat is she? I don't like Christmas cake but I certainly wouldn't expect other people to not have any. I despise mince pies, should we get rid them too? What about Brussel sprouts?

Why should this even be a topic to discuss?

I used to enjoy Christmas cake but find it way too heavy now but my mother is still going to make one anyway. I told her nobody in the family likes it.

If we got rid of everything certain people or families didn't like then there wouldn't be anything left 😂

It is a bit heavy but still really enjoy it but its best as a Christmas only treat. Same as Dundee cake which I also really enjoy and also only eat around Christmas.

I’ve never been a fan of it but I don’t see that as any reason to get rid of it

Oh I love Christmas cake and royal icing, it's just the marzipan that I really do not like. However I have a partner who loves marzipan!

So we say NO don't get rid of Christmas cake 😊

I love Christmas cake and so does my mom. For years I have made Mary Berry's Christmas fruit cake which involves soaking the fruit in sherry for 3 days before it is baked then feeding the cooked cake once a week with rum, whisky or brandy whatever is in the cupboard for a couple of months before covering in marzipan and icing. I give it to my mom on Christmas day, she has a slice every day and gives a slice to her visitors. It's that good I am loathe to try another receipe.

If you don't eat it why bother. My mum makes them for those who want them. I don't eat it but my oh does
