Are These Running Shoes a Fair Advantage to Smash World Records ?

Other

The Etheopian runner Tigst Assefa managed to smash the previous marathon world record using a pair of the latest running shoes , very expensive and are for using once only

To me this is not an achievement , when the shoes are creating the record not the wearer

In a long distance marathon the shoes are said to enable the runners to gain more than a 4 minute advantage

Obviously this applies in all sports , like grand prix racing , where the most technological vehicle has the most advantage of winning

But this is running , and the onus should be on the athlete, not what they are wearing

Some runners may not be able to afford these disposable shoes , £400 for one run then throw away

Any runners here that have a different opinion than me ?

congratulations to her. She won because she’s a top class athlete . If I were to wear those shoes I wouldn’t win!

Pjran Of course you need to be a top athlete to win races P , but do you think wearing extremely expensive shoes to give you a great advantage is fair on poorer athletes ?

telmel why not? Next you’ll be saying they should run naked, some materials are streamlined.

Pjran So would you say it would be fairer if all athletes could wear these shoes P, then nobody would have an advantage using their equipment and winning would be based on stamina alone ?

telmel There’s always been a selection of running footwear specially made for top athletes. Their designs and quality eventually filter down to high street stores.

Pjran Very true P

I suppose things like this can only get more advanced and eventually the price can become more affordable

Wow ok he smashed a record but the fact that the shoes are once only is dreadful. So wasteful and that not ok on the environment
