Scientists Say Mystery of How Red Wine Headaches Occur May Be Solved

In the News

Most people like a glass of wine , red , rose or white being the main three

But some people find after a glass or two of red they start to develop a headache

I would be rich if i was paid for every person i have heard say, 'i will stick to white, red gives me a headache '

Now scientists think they have discovered the chemical causing it, a flavanol called quercetin

It is all to do how the liver breaks down the wine, and this seems to want to stop the breakdown in the liver causing headaches

Lets hope they can remove it, and make everyone who enjoys a glass of red headache free

I will drink to that !

Will you ?

Cheers

Easy with red wine. Don't drink it. It's rough.😄 prefer white or rose

Jerseydrew If you pay a bit more for bottle of red apparently you dont get a headache J

It is the cheaper plonk that causes it, those whose grapes get less sunlight , must be the chemical reaction that reduces the flavanol, i found this explanaion, written before the latest research

“Usually it's because the grapes get less sunlight than those in, say, the really expensive cabernet they make in the Napa Valley.” But be warned: Less quercetin can mean the wine's tannins might taste less silky. Unfortunately, there's still no cure for red wine headaches

I have a friend who won't touch red for this reason. I do love a red. I don't get headaches while drinking it, only the next morning if I drink too much.
