Sick to Death of Rip off Retailers/manufacturers

Other

  1. Shrinking products, less weight same price
  2. Shrinking products AND costing more, double whammy
  3. Artificial price hikes so product can then go 'on sale' at normal price.
  4. Emails saying 'we have saved your basket' when I haven't put anything in it!
  5. Flimsy products that keep breaking or wearing out so you have to buy again.
  6. Sell by/use by dates disappearing.
  7. Special offers online but shelves empty of them instore (supermarkets)
  8. Petrol sneaking up again was 144 recently now back to 149+ but nothing on news, all silent on the petrol front these days.
  9. Taste of many foods not so good as cutting down or out of ingredients.
  10. Criminal activity by selling goods to children illegally.

It is hard to find anything to smile about lately and I totally sympathise with those who have families and loved ones to worry about. At least I only have myself to look after.

Can't disagree there. I used to get around 7 by using click and collect but you have to pay or buy a lot now so that doesn't work.

With 4 I wouldn't have to put things in basket I didn't plan on buying if postage was clear

Imnotcheap yep, I sometimes do that but the examples above I didn't as I had no interest in their products. Didn't they realise by lying it would put me off buying from them?

I couldn't agree more, life isn't as it used to be. With all that going on and the whole government (any party) trying to destroy us it is a bleak outlook.

Mr T lost his sense of taste and smell about 10 years ago. Then a year or two ago he became diabetic. Trying to cut our sugar is a big problem but he has lost a lot of weight. He often asks me about the food we eat as he can't taste it but it IS different, as you say the things that made it taste good have been removed so even I don't like some things we eat either now.

We bought some jeyes fluid a short while ago and that has even changed. It doesn't look the same or smell the same and, of course, it also doesn't work now!!

Why do they keep messing with everything?

Sales, well don't get me going on that. Heinz products were recently half price in Sainsburys for just 3 days. Did they get in any extra stock - NO, so on day 2 there was hardly anything to be seen on the shelf.

I could go on but I will leave it there 😩

tumblespots oh my word I could write a book! However I would have to leave it to my sons to get it published after I died as I would probably get murderous threats for being very un-pc and extremely non woke. Either that or a big company would put a contract out on me👻

Lynibis I could easily become the Mary Whitehouse of these multinationals too and would be imprisoned for my lack of wokeness and pcness! I don't see why we have to pussyfoot around - tell it like it is.

You have cheapened it.

Taken out all the tastiness of the product.

Reduced it's size

Inflated the price

and still expect to pay for it.

So for a while we do begrudgingly buy it but beware because it tastes like cr*p and we won't buy it for long.

I’m in total agreement but as long as people keep buying things won’t ever change for the better.

Welcome to Rip Off Britain where everything goes up apart from the wages. The utilities are coming down but the standard charge Is going up. Nowadays everything more or less Is made In China thats why they dont last so long. As long as you keep buying, the price will stay the same. (IE) Supermarkets.

Leannexxx I am sorry too. I was made Redundant In a highly paid job last October (12 years service) and now I am paid Min wage for working nights. Part time now. I hate It there but I am always looking for something different. Tried many times for something else but got turned down. Keep looking though and never give up.

To be honest I would be quite happy if the petrol round our area was 149, it is currently 156-158. I have stopped buying certain things because they have gotten too expensive, even the own brand items.

MrsCraig near me a garage is selling fuel at 155.99 but the cheapest at Tesco is 149.99. I no longer buy Heinz products as I refuse to pay stupid prices.

Shorter dates on most things nowadays especially crisps

Pfs they reckon we should use our common sense and noses to judge if something is ok to eat, but that presupposes you have a starting point to work from. Potatoes no longer have a date but if my online shop contains a bag how do I know if they will last me the week, most already are bruised, squishy and have roots growing so it would rather prove all the fresh ones have already gone.

As some have said rip off Britain, I tend to walk around the supermarket these days with my jaw dropped, the price hikes are unbelieveable and there's now a lot of foods that I won't buy anymore. Mr Kipling are now exceedingly expensive, even when on offer so make my own. I've also noticed how much sweets and chocolates have gone up, petrol has also gone back over 160.09 a litre again. We are lucky where I live and have food hubs where surplus food is donated by stores local like, Lidl, Aldi, Marks, Tesco etc, these hubs are for anyone to stop food waste, I popped in on Monday and had lovely bagettes, pots, cuc, toms, red, green and yellow peppers, tinned items, pasta, bakery items to name a few, all for free and perfectly edible.

Thats why the rich keeps getting richer and the poor poorer. Its a sad state of affairs, it almost feels like we're going backwards.

I can help with the date codes though. Although they've been removed they do still have a code to give guidance. Letters A through to L represent each month of the year (B is February, C is March, and so on), and the numbers represent that date of the month.

Lynibis I think their trying to encourage the public to rely on common sense when it comes to certain produce going off. But I'm not sure if it is working as they haven't really communicated the idea to the public.

Midnightflower I understand but it can only work if you know how fresh the food is when you buy it. In my example of potatoes they are often in obscure bags and if you don't know how fresh something is at time of purchase how do you know how long it will last. I expect families use a bag fairly quickly but I expect them to last me at least 5 days. You have no idea how long fresh produce have been lying around when you buy and it gives shops carte blanche to sell stuff on the cusp so to speak.

However, I will certainly use your code breaking tip lol.

I forgot one of the worst offences: when an email promises 'up to 50% (or more) off in our fantastic sale' or words to that effect. When you open you find one offer with the 50% off and the rest are all 10 to 15% off!

I’ve stopped buying certain branded products and switched to stores own labels because of shrinkflation. These companies must have lost tremendous amounts of income.
