Do You Suffer from Fungophobia ?

Ask a Question

It sounds nasty but it is actually a fear of mushrooms

People fear them because they think they are poisonous if picked and eaten

I was surprised that only 3% are poisonous , the rest are edible

They also biodegrade babies nappies , they can grow from them and do the same to cigarette butts

Not forgetting the 'medicinal' properties they have

These article below are a fantastic read if you are interested in them or like to eat them

I posted the three links because each has interesting facts , but the main is the first link

I don't have fungophobia and I eat mushrooms but only when they are really fresh button ones as the flavour changes as they age when in the fridge. The ones I eat are from the supermarket as I don't trust my judgement with wild field mushrooms as to if the are edible or poisonous.

SueWard Thats the problem S, if you pick them yourself and don't know the difference between edible or unedible , safer from the supermarket as you said

telmel the one and only wild mushroom that I would have the confidence to pick and have done so is the giant puffball, it is unmistakable as anything else, I have a friend who is a expert in foraging and mushrooms and he has shown me 4 or 5 other easily identifiable ones aswell, but I wouldn't have the confidence to pick them without him, even when I picked the giant puffballs I took photos of them in their surroundings and showed him first before I ate it

I really can't stand the smell, taste or texture of mushrooms or at least all the ones I have tried. I don't have a fear of them and think they look amazing with different colours textures and shapes
