Supermarket Prices
Ask a Question
Is it just me or does anyone wonder that the ‘slashed’ prices or loyalty members prices are really the actual price of the product anyway? A lot of ‘reductions’ are only be reduced by a few pence often. Some offers are good though.
Leannexxx Seems like Aldi won't do loss leaders so often their reductions are pretty weak. What I find in Aldi is the less mainstream products are much more expensive. I guess they don't move as fast on the shelf so have a higher margin. That's one of the annoying things about Aldi and Lidl is they don't do home deliveries so you can't see their prices online to make comparisons. Often I go in and can't get what I need as too expensive especially the few branded goods they do (I mean real brands not their own fake brands). I remember seeing gravy granules in there which were very expensive. I think it was a 3rd of the price in Tesco and Sainsburys for the same size under their value brands. That's why I always keep buying from different supermarkets as each is better for some items either quality or pricing and it means I keep being sent vouchers to entice me back.
I think they often reduce then to same prices as other shops to make us feel better about buying things
It does make you wonder though. Supermarkets do have cunning tricks. They lower their prices on something and put it up on something else. It’s definitely not the RRP that’s for sure. When one supermarket does It, they all do It. Supermarkets are the ones that’s ripping us off.
The usual trick is to put prices up for a little while and then reduce them making you think that you're having a better deal. Happened with my Bombay potatoes this week
What's lowered on some items is only added to something else, inflation goes down yet food prices still rise, rip off Britain at its best
A lot of it is marketing isn’t it, just like when they do discounts for buying in bulk. It just leads to more wastage when they could just reduce the price of single items like other countries.
I use my loyalty card to get points and money off my shopping. I pay attention to the price per unit etc I don't buy big brands anyway so don't pay attention to the so called offers. I did get 25% off clothing with my loyalty card which was a brilliant saving but that's the only one I've had recently that I thought was good.
My heron's had some buns reduced from £1.75 to £1.74 on the label is said half price or less
