I know many of us are looking for deals due to having to pinch our purses, cost of living of course, but I'm sure many of us are also conscious of the sustainable implications of our purchases.
By sustainability I am refering to the environmental impact of companies we are purchasing from, including those that take part in greenwashing, fast fashion, and explicitly harming the environment with manufacturing. Part of it also includes the treatment and conditions of employees of these companies, both inside the UK and another countries around the world.
An easy example of this is Amazon, known for mistreatment of employees and wasteful packaging/shipping. Another example is clothing companies like PLL, which have lots of very great 'deals', giving low quality clothing for low price at the expense of the workers who can't be paid much if the clothes they make cost pennies.
I do not judge anyone who purchases from companies like this and I occasionally do myself, but I think it would be great if Latest Deals could have a more eco-conscious selection of deals, especially in the daily emails. Or even an opt out of certain companies like we can for the homepage.
It is a little disappointing that when scrolling through the email I see Amazon deal after Amazon deal after Amazon deal. Knowing that Amazon purposefully has prices lower than the competition in order to have a monopoly on the marketplace, I personally reserve amazon purchases for emergencies and products always out of stock elsewhere.
Just wondering if any one else feels a similar way?
I must admit I see so much tat being sold. Single use plastic products which quickly end up in landfill or cosmetic chocolate where the packaging is over done. Then you have simple perfumes that cost pence to make but the packaging is ridiculous. I do try to avoid making such purchases.
I think we just have a mindset that will lead to a complete breakdown in the environment but many of us will probably go through our lives without witnessing the horrors to come. Probably its going to be the grand children and great grand children that will have a real challenge to stay alive and die through excessive temperature, lack of oxygen or food.
I only use Amazon when I can’t find what I want elsewhere. I don’t buy any tat and I think it’s time they should stop bringing out mountains of plastic sweet tubs. You get more tub than chocolate anyway. What is wrong with the normal cardboard boxes with a Christmas picture on it? I don’t do fast fashion either much, mostly charity shops.

You can just scroll past deals you don’t like. Amazon does have competitive pricing but not always the cheapest.
Another thing that annoys me is Children's toys. We import so much of this tat which is short life and ends up in landfills pretty quickly. I personally think video games are much better for kids. Just get them one robust device and install lots of interesting apps on there which can entertain them, educate them and keep them quiet. As a kid I had lots of toys but the thing I played most was my Atari VCS console and home computer. I learnt a lot from using my home computer and even the Atari VCS had challenging games that helped my intelligence and reaction time.
