Teaching Comedy in Schools

Other

On Jeremy vine they are talking about teaching kids comedy. What do you think? Personally I think these kind of drama type subjects. You can incorporate things like maths and English. We sometimes get kids to act out what's being learnt

I wouldn't say I am against it but it seems every week someone is calling for something else to be taught in schools and there really aren't enough hours in the day to do them all. There are so many things that parents should be teaching their kids or they are either just too busy or can't be bothered.

Lynibis as someone who works in a school I agree. But there's ways to incorporate maths and English into the arts

Jerseydrew yes, especially with comedic history as I think everyone on here knows I am a history nerd. It's awful of me to mention it but I couldn't believe a celeb on a quiz show thought that Cleopatra was around in the 14th Century!!!

Lynibis I'm not shocked. Had to explain to a year 6 that Anne Frank's house is a museum. They were doing wwii I mentioned I'd been to Anne's house. The look on his face was priceless. He was like wait um miss how old are? No idea how I kept a straight face but I did (think it's because of the subject matter that I didn't help with laughter). I've a very sick dark sense of humour. So didn't get insulted. But I responded oh j went in may half term when I went to Amsterdam on holiday. Its now a museum.

Lynibis I am 100% against this "teaching" of comedy. Only a state school would go along with this, not the posh ones.

Lynibis ,Our daughter got my partner & I into watching Horrible Histories years ago,IF History was taught like that, acted out, instead of from a book or film I think more people would take an interest..

janphoenix51 before I retired I had a few of the kids I worked with mention horrible histories. I was pleased that they could answer a few of my history questions having watched it.

Lynibis ,Horrible Histories is fabulous, if History was taught like that when I was at school,I would have paid more attention as would a lot of people I'm sure!

I took my long-time Lancashire mate to Chester for her 50th for a few days..She said shall we watch something while there, yes I said, she gave me 3 choices..

Abba, Beatles or Horrible Histories, I told her Horrible Histories so that's where we went & thoroughly enjoyed it!

janphoenix51 I have watched a few on tv with my grandson when he was younger and I know the actors do a lot of other stuff around the country. I believe they did some enactments at Colchester castle when I went to their Roman weekend last year.

I think its a good idea J, there needs to be some light relief in the school curriculum , it might take peoples minds off knife crime which is the scourge of the nation at the moment

It could be an after school activity as acting is

telmel definitely teaching things like history can be done where you're performing it and yes it can be funny because you remember it. I still remember bits if my ww11 play we did at school in the 90s. Now if that had been just spoken to us it wouldn't have gone in
