What Impact Will the Icelandic Volcano Eruption Have on Europe?

Ask a Question

I just read this the other day and felt a little sad as i have been to Iceland a few years ago and swam in the blue lagoon spa which is right next to the erupting volcano

The problem is the eruption will not only affect people living in iceland ,3,000 people have already been evacuated, but the whole of Europe and the UK , disrupting flights with the fallout of ash as the Eyjafjallajokull eruption of 2010 did, stranding millions of tourists worldwide as it grounded more than 100,000 flights over seven days

Lets hope this one is not going to be so bad

Did you get affected by the 2010 eruption ?

Such a shame as Iceland Is a pretty country. All Nordic Countries are to be fair. I have seen the Blue Lagoon many of times on Youtube and it looks wonderful. Its on my bucket list even though It Is really expensive there.

Emerge11 It is expensive E but you can spend all day there if you want, they have a bar in it and you can eat there , you feel so warm while in the water , then it is a sudden shock to get out when the cold air hits you , you just want to get straight back in

Emerge11 my first impressions heading to the Blue Lagoon for my children to swim was what the heck am I doing treating them to experience swimming next to a power station! After the shock the kids enjoyed themselves but I wouldn’t go back.

I imagine flights will be disrupted like last time this happened. More worrying than that is the environmental impact

jms19 The government only evacuated 300 people in the 2010 eruption J, this time they evacuated 3,000 , so they must consider this eruption could be more severe

That would also mean more ash than last time and a bigger enviromental impact , frightening

Looking at the disruption they are experiencing is shocking and there not getting any warning .I saw that 1 town they were not only close to the volcano erupting but it was bringing a lot of earthquakes .Hopefully it will calm down soon and life for the Norwegians can come back to relative normality .

stuartsmith544 Lets hope so S

But the fact they have evacuated so many people does point to another eruption , it is now 4,000 people that have been moved away

This article in a European newspaper seems to confirm this

There is over 30 volcanos in Iceland so no suprise , as for Europe it would depend on how bad it is

martinlufc5637 Its a shame when it happens because some people save up hard for their holidays to get away and something like this can scupper their plans , besides all the ecological damage it causes
