Train Journey & Hotel Help Please!
Ask a Question
Evening all,
So I know this sounds silly but I've never been on a train journey that's over 30 mins and never stopped in a hotel before so I'm looking for a bit of help as I'm looking at travelling from Darlington to Manchester (I think Piccadilly is closest to Old Trafford stadium (going to a concert there) well thats what Google says anyway!!
But how do I find hotels near to train station and old trafford? And when's the best time to book train/hotel - apparently its too early to see train tickets (June 2024) I can't ask my other half as I'm booking the concert as a surprise for him.
I feel like my anxiety will be crazy as I'll be going on a train, to a new place, I'm rubbish at directions and convinced I'll get lost in the wilderness for months on end
Hope this post makes sense, Thank you in advance!
I know there's a Premier inn and an Hilton hotel a stones throw from Manchester Piccadilly rail station
DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester - Piccadilly
Premier Inn Manchester City (Piccadilly) hotel
Thank you for that. Google says manchester Piccadilly is about 30 mins from old trafford so will look at those hotels you've mentioned
Are you travelling with your partner? If so you can get 2 together railcard which will discount the fare but you must travel together when you use it. I don’t know that area as never been. Is it one train or changes? There are usually some platform staff to ask if you get in a pickle.
JLouM yes I'll be travelling with my partner...thank you for that I'll have a look into it I can't see train journeys yet as it's June 2024 well be going
PinkElephant26 A quick look and Darlo to Manchester Pic in Jan leaving 12.28 is £150 return change at York or leave 13.17 to Manchester Victoria is £65.20 return. Man Pic - Old Trafford aprox 30 mins depending on Tube line. Man Vic - Old Trafford 18 mins on Green Line Tube + 12 min walk. There are a few hotels to pick from google hotels near Old Trafford.
lilyflower thank you! Just booked a hotel as I got the tickets this morning but silly me didn't think that obviously everyone else would be booking hotels too with the concert being on
PinkElephant26 You are welcome, Manchester Piccadilly is a busy station, I'd rather go to Victoria and it's cheaper (prices above are examples and no change from Darlo)., just give plenty of time as it's TransPennine and prone to cancelling. Who are you going to see?
I'd say for the hotel look at booking.com/, set your location at Old Trafford and filter to the distance you think is short enough so you can get there easily, hopefully you'll get some decent and not too expensive places.
And for the trains, email the company and ask when they will release the schedule for June then you can book it on that date.
Which concert are you going to see?
G0501 thank you, that's an idea emailing train company! We're going to see Green Day I'm sooooo excited! It's the one and only thing on my partners bucket list (has been since he was a kid) so I knew I had to get tickets for him for Xmas!
Just a handy tip as booking.com/ has been mentioned
If you find a hotel on their website you want , call the hotel first to find out what they charge booking direct with them
Sometimes, not always , the price might be cheaper, or they might have an offer on at the hotel that booking cannot offer
Remember, booking have to make a profit too , but they do this by buying rooms in bulk and then supposedly selling you the room slightly cheaper, but it is not always the case
telmel thank you, I've managed to book a travelodge hotel which is in-between the concert venue & Piccadilly Station
Don't know about trains but if you go top cashback and put booking.com/ and search for hotels in Old Trafford area will give you choices. I usually check sites like premier in aswell.
Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who answered my question...its been very helpful!
Now I just need to figure out how to get from the train station to hotel - hotel to venue - venue back to hotel - back to train station...apparently they have public transport in Manchester I'm so bad at this travelling malarkey!!
