Using Expired Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Other
While cooking i went to open a bottle of extra virgin olive oil only to notice it was almost a year out of date!
Cross with myself at the waste and expense i googled ways to use it and was amazed:
Polishing The Furniture
Grease Creaky Doors
Removing Dye From Your Skin
Leather Conditioning
Makeup Removal
Hair Regenerator
Moisturising Dry Skin
Strengthening The Nails
Remove Dead Skin Cells
Get Rid of Dandruff
Shaving Cream Replacement
Use It In Your Garden
I have only put each heading but the site i found explained each one individually, hope the link works, if not just google 'ways to use expired extra virgin olive oil'
oliveknowledge.com/how-to-use-expired-olive-oil/
I will certainly try the Hair Regenerator as i have mentioned many times how thick, frizzy and dry my hair is!
I'm terrible at getting hair dye on skin but my daughter has cheaper hack put white petroleum jelly on shin before dying.
I need something to help my dry frizzy hair so will look out for olive oil with short date
Imnotcheap from my stupidity at not using it, stuck in back of cupboard, it is free as it would have been thrown away, I wouldn't have bought it to use for any of those things, but of course it was very expensive on initial purchase
I have heard of putting Vaseline on skin to avoid dye and other colours staining, especially eyebrows.
dawarwick it was best before end of December 22 lol. I guess I would risk it as it's still unopened but tbh I keep buying stuff intending to use for recipes I have seen and then never bother. Usually they go to food bank of still in date. In this instance I think my hair will be grateful as I usually pay out for coconut oil which litre for litre is probably dearer.
I found this on google L , apparently when it goes rancid you can smell it
Olive oil goes rancid after 18–24 months, or 12–18 months if it's extra virgin olive oil. Store it in a cool, dark place and, ideally, in a dark glass or tin container that's well sealed.May 29, 2020
I would be tempted to use it if unopened L , it should be ok for a few months yet, its so expensive now
Its best cold over salads, if you use it for cooking it can become carconegic apparently when it reaches a certain temperature
Jerseydrew generally I do use things up as long as they are safe to eat as young and old do not want to be ill. But when you live alone it is often hard to finish off something and even if available in smaller packs they will be much dearer.
Virgin olive oil should be used within 18 to 24 months of harvesting the olives but I don't think I will risk consuming nearly a year past that date.
