Visiting the Cinema

Other

do you still visit the cinema? I used to enjoy watching the new films on the big screen, but nowadays it's very expensive, and so I'm more than happy to watch it at the comfort of my own home

I like going to the pictures and can just about cope with the cost BUT I object to being told I cannot bring my own sweeties

In reality they are not going to do stop and search! I always took my own refreshments but these days I do not like to eat in the cinema so just take a bottle of water.

I agree. They charge so much for refreshments, I’d rather bring my own. I’ve never been searched and I doubt they’d ever do it

I read that part (don't know whether big or small) of the profits in cinemas comes from selling popcorn, colas, sweets and more rather than just movie tickets.

It's why they don't let bring your own and sometimes can get upset because it's money they're not making.

YvonneKelly85 So do we our cinema is right above Sainsbury in East Kilbride - trip down in the elevator to get the munchies and then straight back up to the Cinema entrance!

Last decent film we saw was RIDDICK!

Amazing film.

My boyfriend downloaded it first on utorrent , watched it then insisted we had to go to the cinema to see it and it was well worth it!

We only go if there is something that we really want to see. We use our nectar points to pay for the tickets.

Yeah I used to go once a week because I get perks from my work amongst other things... It's like under ten quid which isn't too bad but the costs do add up once I totalled everything in 2 months lol... I stopped going because it's more comfortable at home.

I get old people's discount but it is still £23 plus for 2 in the comfy seats. Very expensive when you could buy 2 dvds and keep and watch for years . Surround sound, lights off, big screen and some popcorn and you can pretend you are at the cinema.😵

I like going to the cinema, but generally won't buy food as it's over priced. Odeon and Cineworld offer monthly passes that are great value for money if you watch a lot of films.

ah yes, the passes are great for students too, as it can be a relatively cheap place to hang out with your friends to catch the latest blockbusters

It can be reasonably cheap depending on country, city or village. The problem is trying to find a movie that isn't another superhero flick. 😐

I do wanna watch Creed II on the big screen since it's just another Rocky movie.

they're all superhero movies these days, although I understand why one would watch it in the cinema - you can fully appreciate them on the big screens (and when you go for the likes of max and 5D, you can really feel it

Superhero movies are tedious, boring, banal!

The last good one was Superman with the excellent General Zod (Michael Shannon).

They have become much of a muchness now as they say.

Nothing new to add to the genre with each release but i suppose Stan Lee was raking it in as well as appearing in all of them!

Our local is a Vue cinema and it is only £4.99 any time of the week and they have Meerkat codes on a Tue & Wed so 2 tickets for £4.99. You are also allowed to take your own food & drink as it says so on the website in the FAQ section -

OUTSIDE FOOD

Food and drink from outside our venues is perfectly welcome with the exception of hot food or alcohol.

that's really good they are actually allowing you to do that. Though none of them search you, I know that most cinemas in the inner London area frowns upon people bringing in their own food. But if they want to charge the earth for a pack of sweets, I'd rather smuggle in my pound shop goodies!

I've yet to see any of it, but I have heard it is good. Although I'm not a fan of the Harry Potter stuff, I'm afraid. I know people who worked on it though.

hopefully they get to redeem themselves with the next instalment 🙂 I never read the books, but I heard they were really good, so I might give them a go, as I do think the storyline is fascinating

some of the mobile reward apps give you free or discounted tickets, which always help. Can't be paying more than £10 pp

ah yes, I remember seeing the meerkats also promoting discounts too. The cinemas do need to provide good value, as it is so much easier to stream or download these days

I don't really have the time these day but few tricks to save if you think tickets are expensive:

-register for compare the market website and get 2 for 1 tickets also restaurants, do this by buying a cheap day travel insurance in UK from one city to another comes to about £1 and few pennies

-install the hold app register as student but use any Gmail address you don't need to be student or state where you study and you get tickets at Vue for 4.99 also free popcorn and drink. You will need to not use your phone and collect points in order to claim these

Most of the films are total guff and I am not paying £10 plus popcorn and extras to sit and watch crudd - my boyfriend downloads all the latest movies on utorrent and kodi lol

Shouldnt really say that but they are all rubbish so we wouldnt have paid to see em in the cinema anyway!

There hasnt been one decent film this year!

Well apart from "A Crooked Somebody" - little known movie but most excellent.
