What's Just Not worth It?
Ask a Question
What do you think has become so expensive that it's just not worth it anymore?
Mine is the bus - ticket prices go up every year and we only have a bus once an hour, they stop at 7pm and there's no sunday service so it's just not worth it.
I know you may think I am being rude but this is an honest question which has puzzled me for a long time.. If you can only receive points for one topic per day why do you post so many? I notice 3 in the last 20 minutes? Surely it doesn't merit so much of your time, as they all require replies and you only get points for 5 comments.
Of course it is none of my business but it does tend to make other topics disappear quite quickly. I do apologise if I have caused offence?
Lynibis Hi! I'm a part of the LD Team and I post chats here to encourage discussion, as I work for LD, the points don't mean anything to me
SamGoodship Good for you encouraging the members to participate on various issues. Without your prompt I don't think any of us would have anything original to say. Well done.
I receive a free bus pass but I do understand where you are coming from, although recently the prices have come down in my area. I refuse to pay extra for an allocated seat on a plane. The prices have gone way up. My latest flight to Barbados, they want £45 each way so I can pick my seat number.
eyeballkerry The bus used to be more worth it at my old house when there was a regular service. But it's so bad here.
Jackscot I agree with you regarding some buses in another area well away from mine. I am shocked by the smell of beer, cigarette, vipers, and body odour. But I am lucky to have four different buses on my road going to different areas (including the above area) running from 5am to 11.20pm, seven days a week and the others for a shorter period of time during the day.
Jackscot My husband and I have bus passes but we don’t use them. That’s because where we live, in a rural area in a mainly rural county, buses are like hens teeth. There used to be a bus that went from just outside our house to the centre of our small market town but the bus company withdrew its service. Most of the passengers were pensioners using bus passes. The council are supposed to reimburse he bus company with the cost of bus journeys used by pensioners with bus passes. Unfortunately, to save money, the council only reimbursed a small amount resulting to this route making a big loss so the bus company withdrew the service.
I rarely get the bus . The service is awful where iam. I'd have to leave mine at 6.30, get to the bus station to change buses and probably still be late for work at 8.15. I'd have to do the same going home. It takes 45 minutes to drive.
Oakley Yes trains! When Richard Branson had Virgin I could go from Midlands to Euston for £4 & £8 each way which was a fab day out. 1st class was £35 each which we treated ourselves to quite a few times. We would go every 4 to 6 weeks. Now its £79 plus for standard class, they are always on strike or cancelling trains so not been since August, they cancelled Octobers train the return the night before we were going and the outward one [7.25 am] 40 minutes before departure. You cannot rely on them. Avanti need to give it to someone who wants to provide a service as they are waste of time.
Public transport in general is not great. Most of the time it’s cheaper to drive somewhere and pay to park, which is way more convenient
Pjran Maybe if i actually had a proper service I'd consider it decent value lol.
£7+ pints of beer in bars & pubs. Increasingly common in my area. I resent having to pay the bill when it exceeds this price. It can get a bit pricey buying rounds.
SaveMeSunday not necessarily a secluded area, we live in a town but our buses aren't every 20 minutes.
Branded items, I only buy certain items that are a brand and that is only because it is things like Smarties which I haven't found an alternative for. There are loads of things that I won't buy anymore because they are too expensive.
