Why Do Celebs Get All the Good Gigs?

Other

I am talking about quiz shows and documentaries where it seems to always be celebs that go on. As if they don't get enough exposure.

It used to be us 'common' folk on these shows but not any more. I know they often do it for charity but i am sure many non celebs would too.

Yeh, there are some like the Chase and Tipping Point but the one i would love to go on is Richard Osman's House of Games, i would be happy with a silly red prize!

Would you like to go on a show and which one?

You're right but having said that the way media is these days I thing a lot go on because people don't go to the cinema like they used to or watch TV like they did as we stream stuff off various services and there's do much to choose from they are taking as much work they can get in order to have work

Jerseydrew I see what you're saying but most of the Z list celebs on quiz shows wouldn't have a hope in hell of appearing in a film. Many are terribly dim. As I said above I would love to go on House of Games, quite often the celebs show an astounding display of ignorance.

You have hit the nail on the head!

All my partner's favourite Quiz programmes he used to watch are now spolit by so called C-lebs taking part,as if they don't get enough exposure!!

janphoenix51 I don't mind when they have a celeb special to raise money for a charity they support. Some of the 'celebs' I have never heard of. I read somewhere once that on one particular show they were paid a fee of 5k for taking part. If they were that concerned for their charity one would hope they would hand that over too!

Lynibis ,totally agree with you,it's like when they ask the public to donate their money for different causes...

I think, well how much have YOU donated,YOU have more money than a lot of people!

I always donate but stopped donating to big organisations & donate locally to charities in my area,my money isn't going on someone's highly inflated wage then!

I donated £100 every Christmas, Birthday & Anniversary of my late Nephew's death to MIND for 4 years, if I got extra shifts I would donate that money or a part of it too...

My late nephew s Dad had a Stroke aged 58, Oct '22 & hasn't been able to work since,he & my sister have been married 35 years, worked all their lives. My sister has worked 43 years with the Co-op too, diagnosed with Rhuamatiod Arthritis at 45,that was 14 years ago but she doesn't let it get her down..

I now donate the money to them via their only other child,my Niece in memory of their loved one, they tell me off but I tell them family comes first, they do something nice with my late Nephew's 2 daughter's,their daughter, son in law & their 2 small daughters..x

Pjran ,really I have no problem with people earning a living but charities are supposed to help the people who need it,yes employ & a give a decent wage but the rest of money should go to the most deserving causes

It's the same with Travel programmes, why not give a ordinary family the opportunity to go & review it to us viewers..

I DO like some programmes done by Celebrities, love watching Michael Portillo travelling around, love watching Susan Calman in "Helen" her little van, named after Helen Mirren!

I like watching Joanna Lumley but Jane Mcdonald drives me up the wall!!

janphoenix51 yes, the programmes you mention often need a professional presenter as an ordinary person couldn't give up their day job for weeks/months filming a series.

janphoenix51 I would love to do that as my history talks go down well. I have always done them for free for age concern, but last time they sneakily put some money in a thank you card, I was very touched.

janphoenix51 that's lovely of you, but long in the tooth but if it were historical places I would be in my element. Sadly no one wants to talk about history but it's all I want to talk about lol.

I’d do Taskmaster! I think maybe it’s that people must overall prefer watching celebs on these shows, or at least that must be what the media/show producers think.

lornaae it does the opposite for me, especially if the 'celeb' is a thicko reality 'star'. I love seeing ordinary folk on these shows, I have seen some real characters lately. Tonight on Tipping Point there was a guy with the weirdest long sleeved t-shirt and what looked like tie dyed jeggings on......he must have been in his 60s.

There is obviously a demand for it else it wouldn’t be so popular. I agree I’d rather see a “normal” person on the quiz shows

jms19 I would love to see a group of ordinary 50s and 60s year olds in the big brother house. I would be interested to see if maturity makes them wiser, more polite and easier to get along with each other.

I don't watch any of these celebrity programs, most of the time some of them were people I had never heard of and the rest were completely talentless

martinlufc5637 if you mean reality shows like big brother, love island, towie etc well, they are just trash tv which do our youngsters no good. But I do like a quiz so will still watch if it's a 'celeb special'.

Lynibis...Thank god our daughter has NEVER been interested in any of those programmes, she too loves a Quiz especially University Challenge,Richard Osman's House Of Games ,Pointless,QI, & Only Connect,

For the celebrities programmes she loves Taskmaster, Have I Got News For You,Would I Lie To You & Mock The Week..

The one thing she wanted to do for her 18th birthday was go to a Pub Quiz so my friend & I took her 7 years ago as my partner was at work so couldn't take his girl..Found a Quiz other end of city,a pub we had never been in! I asked the landlady if she needed to see ID explaining daughter was 18 the week before, landlady said no,bought all three of us a drink,Daughter had a Lemonade, then later that night, the landlady brought across a Baby Guinness for daughter to try,she LOVED it!

After that a member of staff brought a piece of Lemon Cheesecake with a candle in & the landlady announced to the pub it was my daughter's 18th last week & the whole pub sang Happy Birthday to her,we didn't win the Quiz but we were made to feel very welcome by the landlady who we found out was called Abbie & the whole of The Byron House pub,Nether Edge, Sheffield..

Abbie & the rest of that pub made our daughter's first Quiz night..

janphoenix51 what a lovely little story. So nice to think there are still caring people in this world. I love a pub quiz, in fact many, many years ago I ran the weekly quiz in our local pub. It was great fun and I got to know all the regulars very well. It was all hand done too as I had no computer at that time.

martinlufc5637 that's the trouble, the real celebrities won't put themselves out to appear, too concerned with their image.

Lynibis ..We sometimes go to the Pub Quiz on a Wednesday at a local pub, once I was on shift when our Manager popped in to see the service users ,my colleague & I..

As he was saying goodbye & have a good shift to us all,I said that I could be doing the Pub Quiz with my partner & our friends,my colleague said yes everything's done,my manager said you go,I said you're not going to dock my wages, no he replied laughing! I asked him if he would drop me at the pub so I got there on time & didn't get rained on, he did much to my partner & our daughter 's surprise!

Manager has offered me lifts before but I've always refused as I like to walk,he knows I always stay behind if anything needs doing & appreciates it & he's been in my role as a Support Worker so understands...

Most ordinary people that appear on quiz shows are fairly bland and instantly forgettable. Occasionally, you'll get someone like Eric Monkman, who appeals to a lot of viewers. When celebrities are involved, their interactions with the host add another layer and are often the most entertaining part of show. The questions are simply a catalyst for amusing banter.
