There’s nothing better than finding an expensive item you’ve been lusting after for a fraction of the price, and one bargain hunter was excited to find a pair of £4 sandals in Primark which look similar to a style going for £500 in designer store Hermes.

Posting to the Latest Deals Facebook group, Lydia F said: ‘How nice are these sandals from Primark? They’re down to £4!! They had them in tan, black and blue.’

The Primark dupes, which are currently £4 reduced from £6, feature flat, square soles with a curly design below the toes. They were available in-store in four different colours: brown, black, yellow and blue.

Meanwhile, the Hermes sandals are priced at £510 online and feature a slight heel, a leather sole and a slightly more curved shape at the top. They come in gold, white, black and beige, multicoloured patterns, fluffy orange and fluffy brown. Prices go up to over £600 for some of the variations.

When Lydia’s fellow bargain hunters saw the Primark shoes, the response was less than positive. Shaylor D said: ‘[They] remind me of pretzels’, while Debbie R chipped in: ‘Or a Curly Wurly’!

Several others also had the curly brown foods come to mind after viewing the shoes; Kirsty S said they reminded her of the popular chocolate bar and people immediately replied with ‘I was just going to post that’ and ‘Same’!

Others were quick to slate the products for more than just their looks, with Jessica B commenting: ‘I have them in yellow and they make me walk like a duck’, while Yvonne B said: ‘These always fall off my feet.’

Claire J didn’t need to try them on, saying: ‘My feet have blisters just looking at them’! Similarly, Katie S said: ‘They look like coffins for your feet’, with Samantha M adding: ‘I’d say your feet would be dead after 10 minutes in these.’

The brutal comments didn’t stop, with Kirsty H saying: ‘There is a reason they have dropped them down by £2’, while Deanne J simply said ‘They’re hideous’ and Kimmy D said: ‘Not my type - they are bloody awful.’

Vicky S said she fancied a pretzel after looking at the pic, while Tracy G commented: ‘I think I’d have ten plasters on my feet after a night out in them.’

Eventually, people began losing patience with all the hate, with Lisa J saying ‘Can’t people just keep scrolling rather than be so bloody rude’?

Lydia said: ‘I was looking for some sandals for my upcoming holiday and had been idly browsing my favourite designers online for inspiration. When I nipped into Primark while I was in town yesterday, I was stunned to see such a similar-looking pair on sale for just £4!

‘There have been plenty of negative comments about the shoes, but I’m excited to take mine away with me in a few weeks - there will always be haters.’

Tom Church, Co-Founder of money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, said: ‘With the warmer weather upon us, sandals are a summer staple - but I can’t imagine paying £500 for a designer brand. These Primark dupes are a steal at just £4, and if they make you crave a Curly Wurly then why not tuck into one on the beach?!’
