- He reveals his hacks for landing freebies worth hundreds of pounds
- Tricks include leaving feedback online and signing up for newsletters
Everyone loves a freebie, but finding them can be difficult. Trying out voucher codes only to find they’ve all expired, or entering your details on a site promising free samples, only to never hear from them again, is enough to make anyone want to give up.
Fortunately, LatestFreeStuff.co.uk owner Deepak Tailor has come up with the perfect formula for getting the best free deals - without the hassle of searching online for hours or accidentally signing up for spam emails.
Tailor, 33, who also co-founded LatestDeals.co.uk, first began his website LatestFreeStuff.co.uk from his bedroom back in 2012, and his aim was to help people with finding the highest quality deals to save them money. Thousands of shoppers were soon using the site, and now the venture is valued at roughly £1 million.
The aim of LatestFreeStuff.co.uk is to provide one simple hub for people to see all of the freebies currently available, and recent deals on the site have included a free moisturising skincare set worth £44 and the chance to win £1000 in M&S vouchers.
For those new to finding freebies online, Deepak provides his top tips for success.
Sign up to newsletters for the brands you love.
Whether you’re into skincare, gourmet food or pet products, this is a good way to learn about any deals from the moment they arrive in your inbox. You can create a specific label or folder within your inbox so that all newsletters are directed there. It will help to avoid missing out on any important messages you get, and you can then allocate time each day to scroll through potential offers.
Check out survey sites.
You can choose to either earn money for giving your opinion, or share thoughts in exchange for freebies such as gift cards or samples. Many surveys only take a few minutes to complete - perfect for when you have some spare time! Sites such as Future Talkers, UpVoice and Creative Kitchen are regularly on the lookout for people to complete surveys in exchange for points, earn gift cards and give their opinion.
Enter competitions.
Having a quick Google will usually provide you with some links to be in with the chance to win. Sometimes you’ll need to write a few lines about a specific topic, but often you only need to enter your name and email address. Prizes can range from vouchers for money off meals out to gift hampers, shopping gift cards and more.
Get social.
There are often flash competitions or giveaways on company profiles, particularly Facebook and Instagram. Keep scrolling through your newsfeed and checking your favourite pages! Often these kinds of competitions will only be offered to those who follow brands on social media, so it pays to keep up to date on what those behind your favourite products are up to.
Read your local newspaper.
If a new company has recently opened where you live, chances are they’re offering free samples or competitions to drum up interest. Why not make it a habit to read your local paper, either online or in print form, every now and then to see what’s coming up? Plus, if you see any new stores opening while you’re out and about, it’s worth checking online to see if there are any promotions linked to it.
Check your groceries.
Plenty of snacks and cleaning products will regularly feature competitions or the chance to receive free samples. All you usually have to do is go to their website and fill in your details! The good news is that this kind of method takes little effort. Shop for your regular supplies and wait for a competition or promotion to appear on the labels, then enter promptly.
Get emailing.
Set up a separate email address dedicated to your free deals. Allocate time each week to check through your inbox and sign up for as many freebies as you can! The benefit of having an alternative email for this purpose is that you won’t get distracted by newsletters and promotions rolling in. It also means there’s something to look forward to whenever you switch to your other inbox!
Get reviewing.
New businesses and startups rely on feedback from their customers. It’s not unheard of for companies to reward those who leave positive comments with samples or discount codes. If you’ve recently tried out a new place and enjoyed the experience, spare a few minutes to write a sentence or two on their website or social media. You’ll be surprised how it could pay off!
Try out new brands.
Sometimes you can try out free samples of products such as pet food as part of a trial subscription. Who knows, maybe the freebie will lead to something you end up loving! For example, perhaps a pet food brand is offering the first few weeks free for their new subscription service. As you can cancel at any time, it’s up to you whether you continue - and you may find yourself pleasantly surprised.
