With Father’s Day on the horizon, many of us may be frantically searching for last-minute gifts. Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, says: ‘It may be easier to click onto gift sites and buy the first items you find, but you’d be surprised how much you can save by making a few simple swaps - and ending up with gifts that are just as good, if not better.

‘Especially if you missed the deadline for ordering online, nip into these high street stores and pick up some thoughtful gifts for a fraction of the price.’

Getting your Dad a thoughtful and quirky glass to pour his favourite beverage into is a classic Father’s Day gift idea, but while it may be tempting to click onto dedicated gifts sites for an easy purchase, you’d be surprised by how much you could save by picking up something just as good for much cheaper in your local supermarket. ASDA is offering a beer tumbler with a fun message on it for just £2, while if you went to somewhere like FunkyPigeon you would get a similar product for £8 more.

The market for unusual and personalised cards for every occasion has become much bigger in recent years - and Father’s Day is no exception. With our friends and family showing off increasingly elaborate unique creations, the pressure is on to make your card stand out. However, there’s no need to pay £5 for a giant card at MoonPig if you want to create a photo-based keepsake for your Dad. You can make a DIY photo card by going in-store or online at Boots and printing 10x8 prints from just £1.25, then sticking to coloured card and adding your own designs. You get a more handmade feel for a fraction of the price - result!

You may have a routine of buying your Dad a new aftershave or cologne each year, but dread it due to the amount you’ll be paying out. However, there’s no need to worry about budgeting for a pricey product, as Aldi has got you covered with their bargain dupes. For example, Aldi has recently released a new fragrance called His Reign for Father’s Day, which is a blend of blackcurrant, apple, bergamot, patchouli, musk and more. A similar product is designer label Creed’s Aventus, which retails at £285 - so at £6.99, you would be saving a whopping £278.

You can’t go wrong with a box of chocolates on any occasion, whether it’s a birthday present, romantic gift or something special for Father’s Day. However, there’s no need to head into dedicated chocolatier stores if you don’t have the budget for the price tags they offer. For example, Hotel Chocolat offers a Father’s Day box of chocolates with eight classic chocolates for £8.50. However, if you’re due a shop in Morrisons before Sunday, they’re currently doing a deal on Cadbury Milk Tray where it’s reduced from £6 to £3. You get 260g more for over £5 less, so if your Dad isn’t a chocolate connoisseur you may as well give him the £3 box to scoff!

Whether your Dad could do with a new backpack for work to replace the tatty old bag he insists on using after several decades, or he needs a better receptacle for his hiking supplies than his coat pockets, you can’t go wrong with a stylish new product on Father’s Day. It’s easy to splash out, such as with this Ted Baker rolltop backpack which currently retails at £100. The good news is that you can get a similar product for much less by going to Matalan and picking up their black backpack of a similar design for just £12 - that’s a saving of £86!
