If your garden furniture has seen better days, you may have thought about replacing your current set.

But one mum has revealed there’s no need to spend the money: you can simply revamp your existing furniture.

Leanne Oliver, 36, a mum and hairdresser from Bolton, got scammed buying online furniture so was on a strict budget.

Instead of buying new, she painted her old furniture using Frenchic paint.

A new set she had her eye on would have cost her £1,599.99 - but she spent just £40 on the paint.

Leanne told money-saving Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK: "I got scammed buying new furniture online so I was on a tight budget.

“My garden furniture was originally purchased from JYSK - I'd had it for years and it was in a sorry state.

“I thought I’d paint my old furniture.

“I’d previously painted my front door in Frenchic paint so I knew it would be ok.

"My mum said it will never work as it’s flexible and will start to chip off.

"Knowing I had nothing to lose, I went ahead and used two tins of Frenchic Al Fresco in Swanky Pants.

"I cleaned it up first and pressed the paint into the crevices with the brush.

“The furniture was scrubbed by me and my six-year-old son with fairy liquid.

"He helped paint it with me.

"We basically threw the paint on with no technique really apart from pushing it into the holes between the wicker.

"I put it in my friend's garden for a few weeks while we had work done in the garden which gave it a good time to cure.

"It’s going great and is being used daily by our family of five and pets, with no chips yet.

"Everyone has commented on how great it looks.

“Originally I was looking at buying a new set for £1,599.99 but this only cost me £40: £20 for each tin of paint.

“I feel very accomplished - it definitely looks more modern than the dark brown!”

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “Now that the sun is out and summer is definitely here, many of us are looking at our garden furniture in despair and wondering where the money is going to come from to replace broken or sad-looking chairs and tables.

“But Leanne’s handy trick shows you don’t need to have a lot of upcycling expertise or a huge budget to make your old garden furniture set look as good as new.

“Hats off to her for repurposing her old furniture, saving it from landfill and saving a fortune too!"

Well done Leanne on upcycling your garden furniture after being ripped off. It just goes to show what you can do with a lot of determination and the garden furniture looks like new. My front door needs painting so I will try the Frenchic Al Fresco paint.
