Mum and daughter transform coffee table for £27 using this bargain material
- Korena Jones, 50, and Sarah Jones, 25, wanted a new coffee table
- Instead of spending £150, they transformed their existing table using £9 Fablon
- Korena is delighted with her new look coffee table
If you’re bored of a piece of furniture in your home, don’t get rid of it and buy a new one.
Instead, you can spruce it up and upcycle it to create a brand new piece, just like this savvy mother and daughter team.
Korena Jones, 50, and Sarah Jones, 25, from Crewe, were lusting after a brand new coffee table, but with a hefty price tag of £150.
Instead, they decided to spruce up their own plain black glass coffee for a fraction of the price using handy Fablon material.
Korena told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "We were pricing up new furniture for the living room on a budget and the TV cabinet, side unit and coffee table in the style we wanted was just over £150.
"A friend had recently used Fablon coating on their dining table. I had never really considered using it on glass before but as we were originally planning on replacing all of the glass furniture we decided it was worth the risk.
"To cover the side unit, coffee table and TV cabinet, it took three rolls of Fablon which were priced at £8.99 each, taking the total cost for three practically brand new looking pieces of furniture to just £27.”
Korena is delighted with the finished result, and believes it has transformed her living room. She advises anyone who wants to copy the look to dismantle each piece of furniture and to use a credit card to smooth out any pockets of air.
"We found the best technique for applying the Fablon roll was to dismantle the furniture so each layer could be done separately, reducing the need for cutting around awkward angles,” Korena explained.
“We also used an old credit card to smooth out any air bubbles as we slowly peeled the backing off to stick down.
"I am so glad we decided to take a chance on this idea and absolutely love my new furniture - it's just how I wanted it and looks amazing. I explained my idea to my daughter who lives with me and she was the one who actually did it for me!"
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, says: “Fablon must be the most useful bargain home product you can buy. You can use it for kitchens, bathrooms and, as Korena and Sarah prove, for transforming pieces of furniture too!
"It’s better for your bank balance - and for the environment - to upcycle existing pieces that you already have, rather than buying new bits and pieces when you feel like changing the look of a room."
