Primark Price Increase Sparks Outrage Among Shoppers

Image

Primark, a popular UK retailer known for its affordable fashion, has recently come under fire from shoppers who are frustrated with the significant increase in prices. One customer highlighted that items which used to cost far less are now priced as high as £45. This change has caused an uproar among the store's clientele, with many taking to social media to express their dissatisfaction.

Demi-Lee Burns, a frequent Primark shopper, voiced her surprise on TikTok, where she shared images of items priced at £45 and £38, lamenting, "I'm sorry but when did Primark get so expensive!?" Her post resonated with many others who recalled days when £50 could buy a substantial amount of clothing from the retailer.

The items Demi-Lee showed were from the pricey Rita Ora range at Primark, but she went on to say "it's no better quality or designs than the rest of the stuff they sell! The pj's weren't and a blazer I saw for £36. It's all pricier."

Later in the TikTok she said, "I remember the days you came out of Primark with a bag full of clothes for £50 and the only bad thing was it getting wet and ripping in the rain."

The discussion extended beyond the pricing, with some comparing the value offered by Primark to other stores like H&M and Zara.

Niamh Kirk, a Lifestyle Writer, reported this story, noting the broader context of the cost of living crisis affecting consumer spending habits. In response to the backlash, a Primark spokesperson stated, "We work hard to offer the best value on the high street, something we know is more important than ever to our customers right now."

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "The situation at Primark reflects a larger trend in retail where even budget-friendly stores are not immune to price increases. It's a reminder for consumers to be more vigilant about where and how they spend, especially during tough economic times."
