Woman bags £20 of food for just £3 and this is how
- Emma Wilkinson, 28, got a Morrisons “Magic Box”
- The huge boxes of food cost just £3.09 but can be worth up to £30
- Emma says the app has helped cut down on food waste
Food shopping is pricey at the best of times - but one woman managed to bag over £20 of food for just £3.09 using a simple trick.
Emma Wilkinson, 28, downloaded the Too Good To Go app, which aims to cut down on food waste, and managed to bag a Morrisons box stuffed with tasty treats, including cupcakes, pizza and cheese, for just £3.09.
Emma, who lives in Bradford and works for the local council, told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "I downloaded an app called Too Good To Go, where Morrisons have signed up as a store to sell 'Magic Boxes’.
"The price was £10 but from the app it costs £3.09! Food is generally after the best before date but should be good to eat. The box can include all sorts from within the store so it's a surprise what everyone gets. As it was my first box I was excited to see what was inside.
"The box that I got had a mixture of cheeses that had more than a week's date on that added up to over £15, plus a few other bits. The whole box if it was on the shelf would have cost over £20!”
Emma says that the app is a fantastic way not just to save money, but to help the fight against food waste.
“There are lots of ways we can all save money and as I have just bought my first home with my boyfriend, saving money is our priority.
"It also promotes not wasting food that is still okay to eat instead of throwing it away."
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, comments: “The Latest Deals Facebook group is constantly being updated with members’ fantastic Morrisons boxes. Some of them have managed to get over £30 worth of food for just £3.09, which is a mind-blowing discount.
"I love this idea not just because it saves money and cuts down on food waste, but also because it can introduce you to lots of foods you wouldn’t normally try! You might even find a new favourite."
