What Advice Would You Give Your 18 Year Old Self about Money/finances/savings?

What advice would you give your 18 year old self about money/finances/savings?
What would you change or do differently?
I moved out and ended up moving back in so my advice would be to stay at home with parents as long as possible. Work any overtime and put so much a month towards savings.
I was always good with money, even at 18. I worked a minimum wage job and before I spent any money I would work out how many hours it took me to earn that money and whether it was worth it.
I would do exactly as I did, save as much money as possible and budget for everything.
Save as much as you can but still enjoy life. When buying a property always have at least six months of wages available because you never when mortgage and bills might rise.
- Don't buy games (or too many)
- Don't rack up debt buying stupid stuff
- Buy a notebook and phone that's suitable for your budget
- Build up a savings account (whether in cash or at a bank)
- Try to learn skills that'll help you and eventually others (see an example below)
- Purchase a piece of land (prices are crazy in the U.K., but not too bad in other countries)
- Buy and resell stuff you can flip for a profit
I recently fixed the string of blinds like this and it was fairly easy once I got the hang of it, although others would just hire someone to do it instead.
Start a pension as early as possible and also join the work place pension as soon as it's available to you
Basically save as much as you can from day one of earning. Before buying anything ask yourself do you really need it.
Lucky for me I was always a saver and not a spender so paid off in the long term. But as early as possible look into a pension and always have something aside for emergencies.
Try and save as much as possible and forget about It. In years to come you`ll thank yourself. Its easy to spend but not easy to save.
Much of the advice given is great - but forgets the mentality of the "18 year old self" ? Luckily I joined the RAF at 17 and probably unbeknown to me 15% of my salary went into a pension ! But yes chuck even a few quid a month into a pension (the government adds another 20% ) and forget about it . Even £20 a month at age 18 will be worth many thousands at retirement (at whatever age that may be in 50 years ?}
