Aldi to Pump £800 Million into UK Expansion as Hunt for New Store Sites
- Aldi unveils record investment for expansion
- 23 new stores planned by year-end
- List of priority locations revealed
Aldi has revealed its most ambitious investment plan yet, committing £800 million to grow its presence across Britain. The supermarket giant is set to open 23 new stores by the end of the year in places like Muswell Hill, London, and Mere Green, Birmingham. Already boasting over 1,000 locations, Aldi aims to push this number to 1,500 by seeking new sites across the UK.
The retailer’s shopping list for new store locations includes Woodford, Surbiton, Bromley, Barnet, Redhill, Aldershot, Haywards Heath, Chatham, Chorlton, Formby, Newark, Chesterfield, Wellingborough, Brentwood, Dorchester, Clarkston, Cathcart, Penzance, Warwick, and Bath.
Aldi is looking for freehold sites in town centres, retail parks, or edge-of-centre areas that can accommodate a 20,000 sq foot store with around 100 parking spaces. The ideal locations would be near main roads with good visibility and access.
Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, stated, “We are committed to bringing high-quality, affordable groceries to millions more British families. With more than 1,000 stores across the country, our footprint is definitely growing, but we know there are still a number of towns that either don’t have an Aldi or have shown demand for more stores.”
Those with suitable sites can contact Aldi at realestateacquisitions@aldi.co.uk. For more information on Aldi’s site requirements, visit www.aldi.co.uk/about-aldi/property/required-towns.
Aldi has also invested nearly £100 million in over 300 price cuts in the past three months and remains unbeaten as the UK's cheapest grocery chain, according to Which?.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Aldi's massive investment shows their commitment to making groceries affordable for even more families across the UK."
