This Chinese Bargain Store Is Expanding Across UK High Streets
- Miniso, a Chinese retailer, is expanding rapidly in the UK, targeting budget-conscious shoppers.
- The store offers a wide range of products from homeware to beauty, many under £15.
- With 29 locations already, Miniso plans to open 30 more in the next 18 months.
Miniso, the Chinese discount retailer, is becoming a familiar sight across the UK's high streets, with its eye-catching bright pink storefronts. Known for its eclectic mix of affordable household items, toys, and beauty products, Miniso has built a reputation for its bargain prices, with many items priced under £15.
Opening its first store in Ealing, West London, five years ago, the brand has steadily grown. It now boasts 29 stores, with locations in major spots like London’s Oxford Street and Manchester’s Arndale Centre. However, the expansion doesn’t stop there—Miniso has ambitious plans to double its UK presence with 30 new stores over the next 18 months.
Laura McGuire from The Sun reported that Miniso’s bright, colourful stores are designed to draw customers in with an eclectic mix of products. Inspired by Japanese convenience stores, the retailer’s offering ranges from home essentials like £1 storage boxes to toys featuring popular characters such as Hello Kitty and Pokémon.
Saad Usam, managing director at Miniso UK, shared that most of their products are priced under £15, making the store a favourite for bargain hunters. Despite inflationary pressures, Miniso has managed to keep prices low, even lowering them by 15% last year. He emphasised that their in-store experience, allowing customers to "touch and feel" the products, remains a critical element of their success.
With many high street brands struggling due to increased online shopping and economic challenges, Miniso is bucking the trend with its growth. However, only time will tell if this rising star can sustain its success in the ever-changing British retail landscape.
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented: "Miniso’s colourful approach and affordability seem to resonate well with shoppers seeking both fun and function. As they expand across the UK, their variety of low-cost goods could be a big draw in the cost-conscious climate."
It would have been nice if this article showed a real picture of a Miniso store just out of curiosity what they are like. I think the whole benefit of these stores is its low price items that are too cheap to post so online is no good. Same benefit to stores like Poundland where a courier charge of 2 pounds or more would not be absorbable by a product which only retails for a pound. I can definitely see the store being a success nationwide as disposable income keeps dropping.
