How Do You Get to the Airport for Your Holiday?
Ask a Question
People are very quick to book their holidays without thinking how they are going to get to the airport. We are called on many times to be a taxi service. What do you do if you need to get to an airport?
Well I am lucky as I work for a transport company and they do private hire too....for mates rates lol.
eyeballkerry we have a local one but doesn't really do many routes, but have a choice of Gatwick, Heathrow or Stansted, not much difference between them really. Usually takes around 60/90 minutes depending on traffic.
Must live near to blacklabrador lol.
I used to love it when Southend Airport was thriving, it was a five minute drive for me.
Now I tend to drive to Stanstead or Heathrow.
blacklabrador hopefully they will add more routes again as I used that airport a lot for Italy and at one point Edinburgh
blacklabrador Southend was a great airport to go from. I remember dropping my daughter off there once, early morning. She was the only one there.
I flew Southend pre pandemic but my airport no longer flys there. We've one airport so can't go to another. I actually like Southend and would choose it over Gatwick or Heathrow. I flew to classy Luton. I take the mickey about Luton but the airport is great. Nicer then the likes of Heathrow. Not as big so while busy it's not as busy.
Haven't been on a plane in about 12 years. We could get the train to the airport as there is a train station at the airport or we would just drive and pay the parking.
We pick my mother in law up from the airport quite often. She always checks that it is suitable before she books and if not she gets the train.
MrsCraig I have not got a train station close to me so we usually drive or get dropped off. All the airports near me now charge for dropping off. Plus if picking up you get charged in the car park.
eyeballkerry our closest airport gives you 10 minutes free in the car park and charges after that. Usually enough time for us to drop my mother in law off.
The train station is about a 5 minute drive or 25 walk from our house and it stop outside the airport so is handy
I’m heading to Portugal on mon for a wee breakaway by myself (eeks). 1st time I’ve ever went on holiday by myself. I’ll have no trouble getting to the airport, mainly cos my daughter wants my car while I’m away so she’ll need to take me to airport if she wants it . Normally I’d book my car into 1 of many airport car parks beside airport (not owned by airport). They’re usually pretty reasonable and provide shuttle bus over to the terminal (bout 4/5mins drive). I only live about 30/40 mins drive from 2 local airports Belfast international or George Best city airport. City airport is few mins drive out of central Belfast but International airport isn’t in Belfast even though it’s named that. It’s bout 45/60min journey from there into Belfast
chele44 Well done on you travelling on your own. Hope your daughter looks after your car but that’s a good idea to get you to the airport. Have a fantastic time and report back with your adventure. Open up a chat about travelling alone.
I drive to my mums. Park there and catch a bus to the airport which is an hour and a bit away. Hate leaving my car at the airport
jamiemat Good idea if you can do that. I know what you mean about leaving the car at the airport. We have done it many times and never had a problem but you do hear some awful stories about cars being used.
When I have parked at the airport, I’ve always opted for the park and take your keys with you. I haven’t got a flash car but don’t want the risk that of damage, fines if they park it somewhere dodgy. I now go by coach as car park prices have gone stupid.
Oh drives us. Dumps the kids and me at the airport. He goes homes parks and walks back. We get there earlier for that reason or we get a lift.
As we only go abroad usually once a year we drive and factor in car parking at the airport and a Travelodge or similar accommodation near the airport if it's a very early flight or late arrival back at night.
Mango4 I really enjoy staying at a hotel before going away as it extends my holiday and less panic as you know you are at the airport.
Live in Leeds with a small airport so often end up at Manchester. I have used both train and national express to get there. I don't drive myself and rarely think of taxi's as I don't think I could afford it. Maybe if I was just going to my little Leeds airport
I’m lucky I live in Taunton and we have a Falcon coach that picks up from the M5 roundabout and goes to Bristol Airport. It goes from Plymouth to Bristol and stops in at the airport. During the day it runs every hour and two hours in the night. In 2019 it cost £8.20 for a return but expecting an increase when I use it in a few weeks as it will be my first holiday since covid but it will still be good value.
The car park prices at the airport have become extortionate to the point of pure greed and profiteering as the surface (not tarmac properly) and sizes of spaces at the car parks are dismal, I stick out and I don’t drive anything flash just a saloon. Although it’s more convenient for early morning flights it’s not worth paying crazy money.
Family usually takes us in the car. Next holiday we will be getting a train to Manchester airport, with any luck flight won't be cancelled
jam45 Unfortunately where I live we do not have this option. I used to get the coach a lot when I lived in Brighton as it was really easy and cheap back then.
