Has Anyone Received Anything Nice from Their Boss for Long Service
Ask a Question
My partner has been in his job for 10 years today and his boss bought him a TAG watch for being the longest serving employees
Has anyone else received any nice gift from work places
Carlton1512 I have only been in my job 5 and half years but my last job I was there about 13 and never got a thing I couldn't believe my partner got a watch thanks for your comment
I've recently retired and worked for two bosses, they did send me a beautiful bunch of flowers, two colleagues also got me flowers and wine and fudge from a third, and a history book from a fourth. They were a nice bunch of people but will keep in touch with a couple of them.
My partner & I are both Support Workers for the same company, different areas of Sheffield & different Management.
I have been there 4 years 7 month & my partner 30 years 1 month..
We get £100 after 5 years & £250 after 30..
We would rather have a decent increase in our wages...
janphoenix51 you both have challenging jobs and I absolutely agree with you. Decent renumeration is not a lot to ask for.
janphoenix51 you both have challenging jobs and well done you it must be a hard job yes totally agree with you it should be a decent increase they give you thanks for your comment
janphoenix51 omg thats absolutely shocking they are needing to have a look at what yous do people couldn't cope without people like yous your definitely not appreciated enough
kate1310 ...I know & we can't go on strike, we were there all through the pandemic too..
Time we were recognised, we do some of the jobs Nurses do..
Never really had a gift as i dont stay in jobs longer than a few years. When my dad retired he got a lump sum to spend on a gift for himself and chose to get a hand made dulcimer.
I worked for a family firm of opticians for 18 years when I left to have a baby they bought my pram for us and received huge bunch of flowers when I gave birth Just shows difference between big firm and private one .worked for DIY store next for 25 years until I retired and got nothing from firm only from colleagues
Carrymehome58 big firms just don't care about the workers just the profits that was so nice of your first employer thanks for your comment
None when I worked most of the work dont care they just find someone new at less pay very little care & celebrate 5 years or 10 years even some of them who do they just give gift vouchers which is not worth when you can only spend at participating stores which is not where most people shop
It should be a common practice to acknowledge 5 years or 10 years of service it gives the sense of belonging to employees by giving either money or something useful which can be used
30 years - I got to choose a small gift from a catalogue - I still can't believe a temporary job I took to pay back an overdraft before I went off travelling again has taken me almost all the way to retirement...
SallyTeder is that all omg has it thats no good employer's just don't care about there staff thanks for your comment
In my last job I got a florist bunch of flowers and I think either chocolates or a bottle of wine for 10 years.
They use to give £250 premium bonds for 20 years.
My current firm does nothing
I think it used to be something that happened more in years gone by.... I remember my Dad getting a very posh boxed pen set for working at his job for 25yrs... He worked there longer but the gift for 25yrs service... xx
My company rewards their staff on a regular basis, last year (3years employment with them), I received a £50 shopping voucher and an engraved Parker pen.
CorinneRogers thats fantastic you don't get many company's like that they must be a good company thanks for your comment
The longest I've been in a job was 4 years. The boss organised a leaving party and paid for drinks. Even gave me £100 when I got married. Every other place I've worked has given me a leaving gift. Once the boss gave me a spa voucher, I was getting married the next month so thought it might relax me! The other places have been flowers, chocolate or wine. I remember getting wine as a leaving present when I was pregnant! To be fair I hadn't told them so not their fault.
I have never at a place of work long enough to receive a gift but my mum was presented a carriage clock years ago. She thinks it’s worth something but I’m not too sure. It stopped working once so she took it to get looked at but on the walk it repaired itself and has worked ever since.
eyeballkerry are you not lol I can remember a lot of people getting carriage clocks from works as a gift years ago hopefully it is worth something for all her hard work
My oh has been in his job since leaving college. We had a weekend stay at a hotel last year. He is one of the longest members of staff
kate1310 ...My sister has worked for the Co op since she was 16,she's 59 now!
She has worked in 4 different branches in various roles including Shop Assistant, Team Leader & Assistant Manager, she has done some of her old Manager's work too & he showed his appreciation by sharing his Christmas Bonus with her.
My sister was diagnosed with Rhuamatiod Arthritis,14 years ago but she's not going to let that get the better of her, she can put a lot of her younger colleagues to shame..
One of her Mangers turned around & told her he didn't know how she moved big crates when he struggled ,he was 37,she was late 50's,he was healthy, she has Rhuamatiod Arthritis!!!
A broken finger, sciatova, a broken mind and a ten year pay freeze for 26 years. Think that beats a watch
Yeah I did In October of 2022? Redundancy. Been with that Company for 12 years too. No sickies, always on time and it was highly paid too. Now I am on Min Wage doing something I hate and working with Aliens.
