Should We Get a Bank Holiday if the Lionesses Win?
Ask a Question
Should we get an extra Bank Holiday?
So many have been cheering along the Lionesses, so should we give everyone a day off if they win the World Cup?
I hope they win but I’m not sure companies can not afford to give their staff an extra paid day off.
Pjran A good thing to note aswell that a bank holiday doesn't automatically mean everyone is off work too. A lot of places still operate on BHs.
SamGoodship you’re right. Most the hospitality industry never get bank holidays as they’re expected to work.
SamGoodship not really but if we would get one had the men won, we should also get one if the women do it.
Not in my opinion. People will start asking for bank holidays for all sorts of things if it happens.
SamGoodship MrsChimp wouldn't get paid and I don't think that heatherduthie would either. It depends who you work for, I suppose.
When I started out, if I worked a bank holiday, it was double pay and a day in lieu. That was a long time ago though.
What's a bank holiday??, I'm a home help, l work 365 days a year, no time & half, no double pay, weekday or weekend it's the same pay, so it's just a day to me.
No I don't think we should. Lots of businesses can't afford it and plenty of people can't afford to lose a day's pay. Not everyone gets paid for a bank holiday
It would be lovely if we could but not everyone gets to enjoy bank Holidays so it just seems like more days off for some.
I genuinely had no idea what the lionesses were as I have not heard of them, seeing the world cup mentioned I assume football. I really don't follow sports and tend to dislike them all, never seen or attended a game. But for your question no I don't think we need another bank holiday (unrelated to the WC win) we have enough as it is. I tend to be on duty bank holidays but do get a day in lieu to take in the year (like a regular holiday day)
No, I think we've had plenty of Bank holidays this year plus strikes etc....gl to the Lionesses though x
I hope England win on Sunday but I see no need for an extra Bank Holiday. We have a quite convenient one coming up. I'm sure something could be organised then. Like many others I'll be working it anyway.
It was fantastic for them to get to the final but its not so important if they win to mean another bank holiday. So many companies are struggling at the moment with financial issues and we don't want them under more financial pressure and going out of business. To my logic an extra bank holiday would be something to do if the country had been through a terrible event and people needing cheering up but England winning the World Cup would be a fantastic event which would be a positive thing in itself.
Yes. And one for the Rugby World Cup too, if the same happens. And that would be if Wales OR England won! Even better. There are lots of other World Championships in other sports... this idea just gets better and better!
I'm being sarcastic, if it's not obvious. No. It's a silly idea
I think we have enough bank holidays as it is. I have no interest in football but do work in the hospitality industry so it does benefit that.
Well I won't say no. Needs to be for Scotland and Wales as well as the channel islands and iom
They discussed this on gmb and I must admit I was on the side of the woman who said no. I don't think the country can afford extra bank holidays. I worked for a company who were contracted to provide a service and we were employed on a self employed basis. Every bank holiday is unpaid for those people and in May we had 3. We also did not get paid leave so on behalf of all workers caught in that net I disagree with another bank holiday during a cost of living crisis.
Definitely a B.H...so many working days all year round..and let's face it..these young women have made us proud..even bought some lioness pj's today...oh and a flag to hang from our home...I don't do football normally but they have worked so hard and shone so brightly. You are an inspiration for all..looking forward to seeing our victory for our country x
