Have You Bought a Barbie Toy Recently?

Ask a Question

Did you go and see the Barbie film? Did it make you/your kids want to buy a Barbie Toy after?

I heard Mattel were expecting higher sales after, but it's not the kind of film that would inspire toy buying I don't think?

I'd imagine it would make the old toys more valuable but I don't know if it would push sales as most people that probably would want one, would have one already. As the toys were out long before.

I saw that Ken was $60 and Barbie was $120 in an what I assume was an American post on social media. I'm sorry but I'm not the sort of parent that would pay that for something that may get broken or pushed a side. I'd imagine that would be more for collectors. You can grab barbies from charity shops on free sites and they are easy enough to wash.

Not that I am tight, I just like to look after what I do have and working towards other things, if you can get it cheaper but with the same standards (not Temu or similar as I don't believe in that sadly) then I would. Plus secondhand items also help save them going to landfill and can also give the seller a helping hand with their cash flow. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't take junk I couldn't use or gift and if it was completely unsanitary then I wouldn't.

I don't like seeing the films that have so much hype, I didn't see Avatar (I really should!) and a few others that were/are super popular. I'd often wait for them to be on Sky Cinema (but have cancelled that) an app or on TV. I'm not a huge fan of the cinema overall if I'm honest. Although I do enjoy it when I go.

*What a boring, tight person this posts makes me out to be, honestly I'm not 🤣

That's surprising considering the film is made more for teenagers/adults. If they wanted higher toy sales they should have aimed it at young kids who play with barbies.

My teenage granddaughter went to see film, she loved it and came back quite emotional afterwards but she’s too old for Barbie dolls. On other hand my 6yr old granddaughter got lots of Barbie stuff for her birthday last month and I was surprised that Barbie stuff hadn’t increased in price due to the film. In fact family members got her some beautiful Barbie stuff at great prices. Maybe all the Barbie books, pens, phone cases etc are aimed at the older audience but I have never looked at price of that cos I’m not interested in it

Yeah it will be interesting to see if the film translates to more doll sales since it seemed, at least to me, that it was more adults interested in it

I took my 6 year old to see the film.Yes it was grown up in parts but there were also lots of things relatable to her such as all the different toys - camper van, dream house etc. it’s her birthday next month and she’s asked for lots of barbie things. She had got a bit bored but since the film it’s reignited her passion for them.
